“When God Created Mothers"
by Erma Bombeck
When the Good Lord was creating mothers, He was into His sixth day of "overtime" when the angel appeared and said. "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one."
And God said, "Have you read the specs on this order?" She has to be completely washable, but not plastic. Have 180 moveable parts...all replaceable. Run on black coffee and leftovers. Have a lap that disappears when she stands up. A kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair. And six pairs of hands."
The angel shook her head slowly and said. "Six pairs of hands.... no way."
It's not the hands that are causing me problems," God remarked, "it's the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have."
That's on the standard model?" asked the angel. God nodded.
One pair that sees through closed doors when she asks, 'What are you kids doing in there?' when she already knows. Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldn't but what she has to know, and of course the ones here in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and say. 'I understand and I love you' without so much as uttering a word."
God," said the angel touching his sleeve gently, "Get some rest tomorrow...."
I can't," said God, "I'm so close to creating something so close to myself. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick...can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger...and can get a nine year old to stand under a shower."
The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly. "It's too soft," she sighed.
But tough!" said God excitedly. "You can imagine what this mother can do or endure."
Can it think?"
Not only can it think, but it can reason and compromise," said the Creator.
Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek.
There's a leak," she pronounced. "I told You that You were trying to put too much into this model."
It's not a leak," said the Lord, "It's a tear."
What's it for?"
It's for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness, and pride."
You are a genius, " said the angel.
Somberly, God said, "I didn't put it there.”

IN LOVING MEMORY OF JOANNE KERNS
This is in memory of my Mom, Joanne Kerns. She was a great mom and grandmother and would help us any way she could. Mom was the one I always turned to for advice and she was a good listener. Her last years were difficult, but now I can remember the good times.

I had the privilege growing up with two strong female role models. I always had someone to give me advice whether I asked or not! I feel so lucky to have my mom as a friend and talk with her almost every day.

Also to my sister Becky McClamrock.
She’s doing a great job raising two boys and being a mother figure to so many of her students.

To my Mother (Shay McClure),
In so many moments, I’ve lost count,
You’ve shown me what love is,
Not just in the way you treat me,
But also to those all around us.
While understanding and guiding,
During times of joys as well as storms,
Your giving and kind spirit
Have became my sister’s, mine, and your grandchildren’s norms.
In my daily attempts to set a good example,
I pray I could be a mere portion,
Of the blessing you’ve been to me and others,
You’re my mom…How did I get blessed with such good fortune?
We love you dearly and praise God for making you ours.
Happy Mother’s Day with a hefty side of Great Nana’s Day!

IN LOVING MEMORY OF DEE LENTZ
I miss my mom … she never complained about anything and always put everyone else above herself. She was so creative and could figure out a solution to any problem. She always came up with the best ideas for my school projects and always helped me to get them done. She raised my kids while I was working and taught them so many things. They loved her so much and miss her every day. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a best friend. She will always be in our hearts and on our minds.
Her memory will never leave us!

From Sharon Loyd
I would like to honor all the fine women of faith I have found at Epworth! You are all a treasure to me in one fashion or another. I love the sense of humor, the kind and loving hearts, the wisdom from the teachers, and so many who are willing to dutifully do their part of service to the Epworth community!
I especially appreciate those who tell me they are praying for me. That warms my heart immensely, as I think there is no finer gift anyone could give than the time, and the thought it takes to give a prayer from the heart!
I am always amazed at the willingness of the Epworth ladies who serve tirelessly and with a glad and willing heart. I see so many gifts among you all! There are so many fabulous cooks, bakers, writers, teachers, talented musicians, volunteers, encouragers, organizers, and smiles….so many sweet smiles….so many generous hearts that give abundantly in one fashion or another! I love the twinkle in your eyes, the song of your laughter, the spring in your step, and your energy – all of you are as varied as the meadow filled with gorgeous colors of many varieties of wildflowers! I thank God for you all!
Some of you are blessed to be Mothers, Grandmothers, and Great Grandmothers, and perhaps there may be some who have not experienced being a biological mother, but you know what it means to be a Spiritual Mother. The wise judge, Deborah, was known as a “Mother of Israel”. So, to all Mothers at Epworth, I pray the blessings of the Lord to be upon you, along with His peace, love, and joy! Shalom!

IN HONOR OF BETTY TOWELL
My mom, she always says "don't worry about yesterday, it's gone. Don't worry about tomorrow, we are not promised it ... just look down at your feet today and focus on the moment you are in." She is well and staying safe. She is our rock and we are so thankful for her.

IN HONOR OF ERIN ELLEDGE
If you look up protective mama animals on the internet the first result will be world wildlife fund, the first example of a protective wildlife mama is an orangutan, the first sentence reads “The bond between an orangutan mother and her young is one of the strongest in nature.” If I could describe the bond between me and my mom, those are the exact words I would use. I could thank her for a lot but the one thing I want to make sure to thank her for is teaching me what unconditional love is.

My Mother, Elizabeth, is quite possibly the sweetest and most kind-hearted lady that I know! She is has always cared for her family, friends, church and community in Michigan and Florida! Epworth also blesses us with meeting many more 'sweet ladies' that we now call 'friend' ! Happy Mother's Day to all!
