EVENTS -
As most organizations are experiencing, our plans for 2020 at Valley Falls Farm are both changed and uncertain.  Here is an update as we know it today:

  • The annual Hoppin’ Hodges Road Race was held virtually on Easter due to the pandemic. Thanks to Janit Romayko for her work in organizing the race once again.
  • We have canceled our popular spring walks in Valley Falls Park, scheduled for May 2, 3, and 10 – (Bird Walk, Wildflower Walk, and “Rocks, Railroads and Industry”).
  • We are hopeful that our Open House at the Farm will be happening in conjunction with CT Open House Day, scheduled for Saturday, June 13th, and sponsored by the CT Department of Economic and Community Development. Stay tuned!

VALLEY FALLS FARM -
Maintenance at the Farm is an ongoing project. Annual painting is required to keep up with these old buildings. The chimney repair on the farmhouse is scheduled to start May 8th.  The plastic coverings will soon be gone!

A bright spot behind the red barn are the Silo Garden ForgetMeNots, planted by the Friends last year...such a welcome sight!

VALLEY FALLS PARK
The park continues to be a comforting refuge for those who look to nature for solace at this difficult time. Following are the guidelines established by the Town for use of its parks -
Town of Vernon P&R facility closures due to COVID-19 Pandemic:
  • Picnic tables/areas & pavilions
  • Playgrounds & all playground equipment
  • Athletic courts & fields closed to group activities
  • Groups of more than 5 are prohibited
Parks and Trails remain open to benefit your physical and mental health. However, these essential outdoor places could be closed or limited if we don't take proper precautions to #StaySafeOutdoors.
Things to do to #StaySafeOutdoors
  1. Use appropriate social distancing by staying at least 6 feet from others (when you are passing someone on a trail, make sure to yield and allow for plenty of space);
  2. Go outdoors as a solitary activity or in a very small group (and if you get to a place that is already crowded, find another place to go);
  3. Keep your germs to yourself (cough or sneeze into your sleeve, and if you are not feeling well, stay at home);
  4. Be careful about what you touch (and don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth);
  5. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds as often as possible (at least before and after you go outdoors);
  6. "Go before you go" and limit the length of your trip (since restroom facilities are closed);
  7. Don't pet dogs that are not your own (the COVID-19 virus reportedly can be spread on dog fur just like it can survive on other surfaces); and
  8. Take out what you take in (this is always good to do, but especially important now).
