Salaam & Shalom,

In this newsletter we would like to reflect with you on how the coronavirus really provides us with an opportunity for critical self-reflection and to explore new avenues. For the past weeks, we felt the impacts of social distancing in Jerusalem over Easter and Passover, Israel's Independence Day and Memorial Day, and Muslims entering into a month of fasting for Ramadan. In all these incidences, the Coronavirus sharpens the ongoing political reality we live in, but at the same time provides alternative possibilities.

May we take this opportunity of the Coronavirus to move from the deadlock we have placed ourselves in, to a different path.

THEY ARE TOO YOUNG!

You often hear adults say ‘they are too young’, when discussing children and youth learning about the historical narrative of the ‘other’ side. The subject of historical narratives in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is one of the most important stages of reconciliation. Yet, adults are very reluctant to expose children to this vital stage. I often teach mixed groups of teachers and principals about how important it is to learn about the historical narrative of the other side as it can provide a breakthrough in the relationship between Palestinians and Israelis, and a huge step forward.

As important as this subject may be, it is extremely difficult to do. Historical narratives are anchored in our personal and collective identity. They shape the reasons why we are here and why we pay such a high price in the conflict.

So this provokes the question, when should we teach our children and youth about the other side’s narrative? ... Read more.

WITH OR WITHOUT MASKS – SPEAK OUT AGAINST BIGOTRY AND RACISM OF ANY KIND.

In the last two weeks, there were several events that I had observed that relate to the Coronavirus and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. I would like to elaborate in this short reflection some of my observations and comments. Read more.

Giving back isn’t cancelled. Thank you!

Thank you for all of the support you have given to Musalaha, not only on #GivingTuesdayNow (05/05/2020)!

We are grateful for all the people showing their generosity in a variety of ways during the year(s) - whether it’s helping a neighbor from the "other side", advocating for peace and reconciliation, sharing a skill, or giving their time through volunteering, every act of generosity counts for us!

We’re sharing ways you can express generosity right from your own home:

  • 250$ enables a woman to journey with someone from the "other side" through a reconciliation group.
  • 500$ enables a joint participation in ‘implementing change’ through environmental cleanup - Wadi Qelt will be one of them.
  • 5.000$ covers one-months' worth of salaries and admin costs which are usually tied to project funds but are now frozen because of COVID-19

Please donate here.

  • Please pray for our summer camp plans, we are still hoping that we might be able to have summer camps in one form or another.

  • As we reorganize to meet in the Women's Department, please pray for the safety of our women who will be bold enough to meet again after the restrictions are lifted.

  • We are recruiting for our next women's group...please keep these ladies in your prayers.

  • Please pray for our staff who have been adversely affected financially by the pandemic.

  • Pray for our Young Adults as restrictions are lifted, so that we can implement our program for them.

Help us build up a generation of peacemakers amidst the conflict through reconciliation.
