AP Student Reminders:
  • Exam security – This will be enforced!  If a student is suspected of cheating, the exam score will be cancelled, and this could jeopardize the student’s eligibility for future College Board testing.  Although the exams are open book and open note, students are not allowed to open other browsers such as Google during the exam.
  • Students only have 5 minutes to upload their exam documents.  It was explained students will be able to practice through the same College Board class sessions College Board is using. So, it would be helpful if they practice how to upload their document prior to the exam.  If they fail to upload the document within the 5 minutes allowed, it cannot be submitted later, and they will not be able to re-test.
  • The same device that opens the exam is the one that will be used to upload the document.  Meaning, if a student opens the exam with his/her computer – the answer documents must be submitted through the same computer.  They cautioned against a student using a phone due to the small screen size.  It was mentioned some of the questions would be long, so it would be difficult to easily read the question from a small screen.
  • Students need to make sure they can access their email associated with their College Board account.  The exam information will be emailed to students according to the email address they have used to set up their College Board account.  Make sure the College Board emails are not going to SPAM.  Also, if a student used a HCS schools email account – make sure they can access it outside the HCS parameters.  If a student wants to change the email associated with their account – they can log back into the College Board account and change it through the “Settings” tab.  If you make any changes, make sure you click “UPDATE” at the bottom of the screen.  If they are unable to log-into their account, they will need to contact College Board:  888-225-5427.
  • Seniors:  Please check and update your school or institution you would like to receive your score.  Deadline to make changes is June 20.  To make changes, log into your College Board account.  Go to AP Profile, Score Send – make changes and click “SAVE” at the bottom.

If you have any questions regarding AP testing, please email Amy Langford amy.langford@hsv-k12.org

Instruction
Please ensure your student checks their Canvas page regularly as this will be the primary source of information.  It would be a good idea for your student to check with his/her teacher to see if they are using any live apps for instruction. The student issued laptops have no video capability as the camera was disabled when the laptop was imaged.  It cannot be turned on without reimaging and that is not possible at this time.  Most information will run through CANVAS.

Huntsville City Schools will not serve lunch during this time.  However, the following locations will provide meals through local civic groups: Lee High School, Lakewood Elementary, Chaffee, Ridgecrest, McDonnell and Morris.

Communication – Canvas, Email, Schoolcast
Communication is vital at this time.  Teachers will be communicating with you regularly.  It is important that you and your student communicate with the teachers as needed.  You may find their email addresses on the school website - https://www.huntsvillecityschools.org/schools/grissom-high-school  I will post a weekly Schoolcast with any new updates.  If you need your Schoolcast email or main phone number updated, please email Sharon Grubbs at
 sharon.grubbs@hsv-k12.org

Laptops / Chargers
If your student has a broken laptop or broken, missing charger please email Gail Meyers, gail.meyers@hsv-k12.org.  We will contact you with more information on how to address your IT issue.

Internet Needs
Each HCS school will have curbside WiFi beginning Monday, April 6th.  If your student needs to download or upload anything you may drive them to an HCS school and do that from your car.  The WiFi will extend approximately 300 yards from the school building.  Please do not exit your vehicle while on campus.

  1. NHS Graduation Stole: Your NHS graduation stole is being ordered for the potential ceremony in June. The cost is $25. This is a separate fee from the graduation fee of $100. You may pay this in two ways: 1) by check mailed to Grissom High School Bookkeeper 1001 Haysland Road Huntsville, AL 35802 or 2) by cash/check on the day of graduation practice in June when you pick up the stole. (If there is no ceremony, you will pick up your stole with your diploma.) *the credit card option has been removed from the website.
  2. Service Hour Requirement: Please continue to provide documentation for any service hours that you completed since May of 2019. You may do this by sending them directly to Ms. Bailey or by uploading to the Google Drive posted on the 2020 NHS Group Me. Given the shortened school year, it is not expected that you have completed all the required hours, but we want to keep a record of any service that you were able to accomplish.

FOR ALL JUNIORS WHO RECEIVED AN INVITATION TO JOIN THE GRISSOM NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY:
  1. Completed Applications: Please hold on to your completed applications until school reopens in August. We will have copies available then if you need another one. Remember to document any service hours that you complete between now and August as these can be used in your application or applied towards your senior year requirement.
  2. The GPA’s of all 2021 seniors will be evaluated for admission to the National Honor Society. Students must have a 3.6 (90) overall average and an exemplary discipline record to be invited to join. Seniors who meet the qualifications and have not already received an invitation to join NHS will receive one in August.
  3. The NHS Induction ceremony will be rescheduled for late August or early September.

GRISSOM INAUGURATION TRIP UPDATES:
We are still planning on attending the 2021 Presidential Inauguration in January of 2021. The Close-Up Foundation continues to enroll students who want to participate in this exciting week of activities. But we certainly understand hesitation to commit to a trip during this crisis. So students who commit and pay the deposit by the June deadline will be guaranteed a spot in the program. Students who wait until August to sign up will be added on a first come, first served basis until the spots are filled.
If a student is interested in participating in the trip, please contact Ms. Bailey for the enrollment information.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Bailey at Suzanne.Bailey@hsv-k12.org or Matt Hall at Matthew.Hall@hsv-k12.org .
