Good morning, readers.

You amazed us yesterday.

We asked for donations to our nonprofit news movement, hoping to raise $10,000 to meet a matching challenge from a generous donor over three days. You came through far more quickly than we expected, collectively giving $10,277.27 in one just one day. That raised us $20,000 to power our public-interest reporting, and it blew us away.

Thank you for your generosity and faith in The Indy. Thank you, too, for your willingness to stick with us as we start transitioning into COLab, our new alliance with the Colorado Press Association, the Colorado Media Project and newsrooms throughout the state.

When I became Indy editor in 2013, almost all our donors were people I knew from my work, neighborhood or kids’ schools, or people to whom I’m related. Seven years later, the 164 people who donated on Tuesday alone span the state, and I know from some of the names and the calls that they also span the political spectrum, are young and old, with techies and Luddites, mask-wearers and mask-forgoers among them. Though we’ve come to know many of you well, we haven’t met most of you. As Tina Griego and I begin reporting in our new roles with COLab, we’ll be reaching out to those of you beyond the Front Range for a handshake and coffee, or elbow bump and socially distanced chat, as the case may be.

Thank you, as always, for having our backs. And please take care of yourselves and each other.

Susan Greene, editor
