Sign the petition to end fighter jet flyovers! 

Claiming to “honor” and thank medical professionals treating COVID-19 patients, to “show resolve” to a weary nation suffering amidst a horrific pandemic, these flyovers come at a high price. Low-end estimates are that each hour costs $60,000, with a total cost in the millions. That’s millions of dollars that could be spent on economic relief and personal protective equipment (PPE), ventilators, and other critically needed medical supplies.

Last week it was Washington, DC, this week more flyovers are planned across Detroit, Chicago, and Indianapolis. In addition to wasting resources, these stunt shows can be triggering for those across the country whose muscles hold the memories of war.

World Beyond War Online Conference (May 28-30)

Day 1 (May 28) at 9:00am-11:00am (PDT) Mary-Wynne Ashford will lead a virtual workshop on “Nonviolence Strategies – 101 Solutions to Violence, Terror, and War.” Click here to register for the virtual workshop!

Day 2 (May 29) will include 2 online panel presentations. From 12:00pm-1:30pm (PDT), Te Ao Pritchard, Siana Bangura, Richard Sanders, and Colin Stuart will speak about their experiences as activists and organizers shutting down weapons expos around the world, and share examples of successful campaign strategies and tactics. Then from 1:30pm-3:00pm (PDT), we’ll hear from Tamara Lorincz, Brent Patterson, and Simon Black about conversion from a war to peace economy, and why we need to demilitarize to decarbonize. Click here to register for Day 2!

Day 3 (May 30) from 12:00pm-2:00pm (PDT) will be a virtual anti-war activists open mic session. We’ll hear live music from the Ottawa Raging Grannies and Sandy Greenberg, along with reports from World BEYOND War chapter coordinators around the world. CASCADIA International Women's Film Festival, Featuring Three Indigenous Films

CASCADIA's 2020 Official Selections, available online May 14-17, includes three Indigenous films: "Red Snow," a feature by Marie Clements and two short film documentaries: "OShiKiKiShaw" ("A New Day") directed by Jules Koostachin and "Women of Journeys: Finding Our Medicine" by Elli Smith and Darrell Hillaire.
Our online fest will include a panel discussion about the Indigenous filmmaking process moderated by Elizabeth Weatherford, creative director of Indigenous Media Initiatives and founder and emeritus director the Film and Video Center for the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian. Zoom Rally for Nakba Day—reserve your spot! 

Nakba translates to catastrophe in Arabic, and refers to the destruction of hundreds of Palestinian villages and the violent expulsion of 750,000 Palestinians that began with Israel's establishment. The land theft and expulsion that characterized Israel's founding continue to this day. We are just weeks away from the likely threat of annexation, which would mean even more deeply entrenched apartheid, more home and village demolitions, and the further loss of Palestinian land, livelihoods, and connections. 

We refuse to be a part of this plan. As we organize with our partners to pressure governments, diplomats, and NGOs to use their power to stop annexation, we must also help build a stronger global movement. On Nakba Day, we will take another step toward this.
