50-Year Reunion - COVID-19 Planning

Hi, <<First Name>>...

"May you live in interesting times..."
often attributed as an "ancient Chinese curse"

Whatever the origins of the above quote, we are living through a time unlike anything we have experienced in our lives with the COVID-19 pandemic. This year will not be quickly forgotten.

With the scheduled date of our 50-year reunion (September 18-20, 2020) now a little more than four months away, we are faced with a critical decision to either
  • Quickly move ahead with reunion plans, sign contracts, and get the word out,
  • Push the reunion out to a later date, or
  • Do nothing
In times of uncertainty such as this, the easiest decision is to do nothing. Of course, the result will be no 50-year reunion. That's not my goal, so we're basically dealing with two choices, and the second choice (delay) presents many alternative options.

To start addressing the alternatives, I hosted an online gathering of interested alumni on April 19 using Zoom video conferencing software. We publicized it on short notice on our Class of 70 Facebook page, and about 20 alumni participated. During the one hour meeting we discussed, among other things, how folks were dealing with the pandemic and the outlook for our 50-year reunion actually happening in September. I recorded the session and if you're interested, you can view it online here:

COVID-19 continues to dominate the news and impact our lives. States are beginning to relax stay at home orders and opening up some businesses, but the future still remains more uncertain now than in earlier, "normal" times.

In order to gather ideas and get help in deciding how we might proceed with our reunion, I've created an online poll to gather input from a broader spectrum of people. The poll is simple and short, and should only take a couple of minutes. I'd really appreciate your feedback, either in the poll or by a direct reply to this email.

The poll will remain open until Sunday afternoon, after which I've scheduled another Zoom video conference to discuss the results and reach a consensus... in other words, I need your help in deciding what to do! Here are the details:

Save this email, and a little before the meeting, click the "Join Zoom Meeting" link above... or if you haven't used Zoom before, click it now to download the software and see what you'll encounter at the time of the meeting.

If you're unfamiliar with using Zoom for online video conferencing, go to their Frequently Asked Questions page and read the sections on "Getting Started with Zoom" and "Joining a Meeting." You can also text me with your question, and I'll arrange a time we both can get on the phone and go online to walk through the process. I am happy to help you, so don't hesitate to contact me.

As always, thank you very much for all your support and encouragement in the past. Together, we can still make a reunion happen - if not as scheduled, then sometime in the future.

Please stay safe and be well!
