For your attention: Updates on our recent activities, upcoming courses, and more
Dear colleagues,
This month, we are excited to share with you news of upcoming programming, as well as summaries of our ongoing research projects.
We are thrilled to invite you to join us for our consumer-facing FCCI Origin Series, an in-depth guided discussion on Zoom with an all-star team of presenters: a cocoa producer, chocolate maker, Harvard Lecturer, and Culinary Institute of America Pastry Instructor. In our virtual classroom, we will travel together from the cocoa farm to the chocolate factory! To learn more about this educational fundraising project, and to sign up for our first session with Zorzal Cacao and Raaka Chocolate, click here.
In the meantime, we warmly welcome all to participate as presenters or viewers in our ongoing digital #StayHomeWithChocolate Festival series, co-organized with our colleagues from Uncommon Cacao. To view the ever-growing list of sessions, visit the Festival YouTube page. Stay tuned to social media for updates on what comes next.
Our research program on the impact of Covid-19 continues. We have now completed two surveys and shared preliminary results via video.
- Survey 1, impact of COVID-19 on small chocolate businesses (survey launched March 15, video published March 23). Video here.
- Survey 2, impact of COVID-19 on cacao production and trade (survey launched April 2, video published April 20). Video here.
We were honored to discuss this work live online with Alysha Kropf and Pam Williams of Ecole Chocolat, AJ Wildey and Felipe Aliaga of El Cacaotal, and Lauren Heineck of Well Tempered Media.
Our third survey on the impact of Covid-19 to the pastry and chocolatier profession has been completed and analysis and peer review is taking place this week. Thanks to feedback from many of our readers, we also plan to launch a follow up survey on the impact to small chocolate businesses later this month. If there are specific questions that you seek answers to about the impact to small chocolate businesses, please write to us and we will consider including them in the survey.
Finally, our team will present on the topic of Covid-19 impact at two upcoming digital events. We invite you to join us:
- May 27-28, 2020: Virtual Ecuador Cacao and Chocolate Summit. This event, organized by Conexión Chocolate in partnership with the Fine Chocolate Industry Association, will focus on best practices and strategy for navigating Covid-19 impacts in Latin America. For more details visit the website.
