Graduate Studies and Continuing Education Newsletter

Hello all,

We hope that you are doing well given the circumstances. This will be a semester to remember, and we want to say “Congratulations!” to all of you who are graduating this year. While we will not be holding an in-person Commencement this May, there will be a virtual conferral of degrees on May 17 (see below) and the University is actively planning a ceremony that will take place at a future date, which we hope you can be a part of. For those that are graduating this spring, I urge you and your families to take a moment and participate in the virtual ceremony to celebrate your achievement and reflect on the effort, the energy and the sacrifices that it took for you to get here. Many of you balanced your studies alongside your commitments to family, work and life in general. You should be exceptionally proud of this accomplishment.

Congratulations to Ph.D. in humanities alumnus Maj. Gen. Scott Efflandt, who is set to become the commander of the 1st Armored Division at Ft. Bliss. See below for a link to more information.

We recognize that this has been a challenging time for all of our students, so we wanted to remind you about two services that may be of assistance to you: online tutoring and tuition insurance. As a Salve Regina graduate or continuing education student, you have access to the online tutoring platform Smarthinking through the portal. Salve Regina has been offering optional tuition insurance for years and, given the current circumstances, we strongly recommend that you consider getting the insurance so that you can get an 85 percent refund if you fall ill. See below for more information.

We know that you probably have questions about the fall semester. While we are planning to hold our graduate and continuing education classes as scheduled, we are preparing for any COVID-19 related changes that may need to be made. This includes lowering class caps and the possibility of opening more sections to accommodate social distancing. See below for a link to a video from President Kelli J. Armstrong that discusses our planning process. Please also view the other important reminders and information that we have included below.

We wish you and your families continued safety and I want to remind you that our office is here to help, so please do not hesitate to let us know if there is anything that we can do to assist you, particularly with your graduate or continuing education needs.

Sincerely,
Tobias Stapleton, Ph.D., MBA
Dean of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education
