Friends,

Our annual storytelling event is just three days away! Have you bought your ticket yet? We hope you will tune in to our first virtual fundraiser to hear powerful stories, while supporting our mission to keep students in school. Buy your tickets today and read on for all the great details

Friday, May 22, 2020
7 p.m.-7:30 p.m. PowerPoint Presentation
7:30 p.m. Livestream Show Begins!
(link to the livestream will be shared before the event)

Co-Hosts

  • Jessica "Decky" Alexander (Professor and Director, Engage@EMU at Eastern Michigan University) and Derrick Jackson, Director at the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.

Storytellers:

  • Leo Sheng, a star of Showtime's The L Word: Generation Q, a trans activist, and a former SAC intern who grew up in Ypsilanti and was active as a teen at Neutral Zone.

  • Marina Jimenez, a Ferris State University student who became a 4.0 college student after experiencing foster care and family loss.

  • Daicia Price, LMSW, Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of Michigan, who will share her personal experience of being kicked out of school and navigating homelessness.

  • Jasmine Williams, a Pioneer High School junior, will perform a story of one of SAC’s clients. Williams loves to sing, write music, and read. She is an advocate for students gaining access to all options available to them and acquiring the same education as everyone else.

  • EMU Theatre Students (CloseUp Alumni Members) are performing a theatre piece called "Please Hold.” This piece was created through the medium of a soundscape intertwined with monologues of truth, despair, desperation and a need for help and most of all answers. A soundscape is a concoction of chaotic sounds meant to transport the audience member's minds to live and breathe in the world being created. "Please Hold" will take you out of your seat and into the office.

    Performers

  • A special performance by the viral Instagram sensation the “Aint Afraid” twins (from Ypsilanti).

You can support SAC by purchasing a ticket or donating today. Stay safe and healthy.
