Dear Friend,

The COVID pandemic has thrown major stressors at humanity around the world. How do we maintain resilience during such ongoing traumas? We do it through enhanced self-care.

Last month I shared with you the self-care resources that are so critical to maintaining wellness. This month, I invite you to take 2 minutes to do a self-check-in with me.

Let’s walk through four areas of your life that are critical to health. Ask yourself how you are doing in the following four areas:

Body & External

  • Wash hands, using masks and gloves as needed – don’t get exposed
  • Manage chronic conditions – keep your risk factors down
  • Get outside or view nature – nature calms the mind and boosts the immune system

Behavioral & Lifestyle

  • Get extra sleep – this is crucial to mental and physical health, including immunity
  • Eat nourishing food – an anti-inflammatory diet
  • Manage stress – the longer this goes the more you need to relax
  • Stay physically active – being active helps in all areas

Social & Emotional

  • Connect with others – we are physical distancing not social distancing
  • Manage loneliness – set up regular connections
  • Stay social if distancing – connect, connect, connect
  • Keep personal space – we all need private space and time to reflect

Spiritual & Mental

  • Practice gratitude – thanks for the life and people you have
  • Focus on what you can control – and let go of what you can’t control
  • Limit news – you will find out in due time, don’t obsess over today
  • Keeping up with mental health needs – see a counselor, sign up for a support group

Now the important part…What’s one thing you can improve today? Start with that and let it be enough.

The past few months have been traumatic for many. Additionally, many may find that reentry into society comes with a new set of stresses and strains different from those experienced when social isolation began.

Use the areas above to help you feel safe and keep you healthy as the world reopens. The resilience you built during the last few months will help as you move forward.

In Gratitude,
Dr. Wayne Jonas
