More State Guidelines Released for Reopening: The state guidelines for reopening barbershops/cosmetology/hair salons, tanning salons and tattoo parlors, were released this week. They are scheduled to open on Monday, May 25. In addition to following their industry guidelines, they should follow the state’s Healthy at Work guidelines. The guidelines for reopening nail salons and massage therapy businesses, also reopening on May 25, were released earlier.

Gov. Beshear said the state would also be expanding June 1 reopening guidance to include aquatic centers (does not include public pools), fishing tournaments and auto/dirt track racing. Other sectors allowed to reopen on June 1 include movie theaters, bowling alleys and fitness centers. Guidance for reopening will be issued soon.

Gov. Beshear said June 8 marks the projected return for museums, outdoor attractions, aquariums, libraries and distilleries. Further out, June 11 will bring back the Kentucky Horse Park, Kentucky State Park campgrounds and Otter Creek; and on June 15 some child care and limited-contact youth sports will be allowed.

McCracken County Library Opening Update: In response to libraries being projected to open on June 8, Susan Baier, McCracken County Library Executive Director, issued this statement.

State Launching Online Tracking System for COVID-19 Contact Tracing: Kentucky’s state government will be hiring 700 individuals to do COVID-19 contact tracing. After someone tests positive, one of these contact tracers will talk with the individual to get basic information about them and get a list of people they have recently been in contact with. Following that, the people on the list will continue to be contacted over a 14-day period and may be asked to self-isolate in order to prevent the spread of the virus. Gov. Andy Beshear says the system will take privacy very seriously and will take steps to protect the personal information of all individuals. Beshear told Kentuckians they need to answer the call from these contact tracers because the system will not work if people do not participate.
