Illinois Agricultural Leadership Foundation News
May 18, 2020
Lynda Gould (IALP '14), owner of Ashton Animal Clinic, reports on how her mixed veterinarian practice has been impacted by the coronavirus. Lynda and her staff have taken precautions such as dividing the staff into teams so that in the event one of the teams needs to be quarantined, the other teams can continue working. They also only allow pet owners curbside pickup of their pets in order to avoid interaction with the public as much as possible. You can read more about this story here

As Illinois residents have been unable to dine out, Jill Johnson (IALP '20), Executive Vice President of the Illinois Beef Association (IBA), shares that the IBA is using social media to promote the best ways to prepare beef at home. She also notes that local suppliers have been a bright spot as there have been challenges in the supply chain with processing plants temporarily closing due to coronavirus. You can read more and hear an interview with Jill here
As the world is in the grip of the coronavirus pandemic and we are inundated with bad news, it is important to recognize the actions of individuals working hard to assist those in need and bring support to their communities. Please share the efforts you or your fellow alumni are making to ease the burden of others during this crisis. We would love to share these occasions of goodwill and leadership!

Cyndy Monier (IALP '86), along with fellow members of the Central Illinois Sewing Guild, helped in the effort to replace elastic in over 55,000 N95 masks for OSF in Peoria. The masks were discovered in a warehouse and the elastic had disintegrated making the masks unusable. Cyndy and the sewing guild stepped up and fixed the masks by removing the old elastic and sewing in new elastic. The repaired masks provided OSF an additional 5 to 6 weeks of much needed supply.

Quarter inch elastic is in short supply due to so many people making masks at home. Highlighting their creativity and resourcefulness, the sewing guild started cutting tourniquets into quarter inch strips yielding four strips per tourniquet. Each mask required two 12-inch pieces. Doing the math, one can see the elastic yardage needed was immense.

Join us Saturday, August 22nd at Destihl Brewery in Normal, for the opportunity to connect with fellow alums as we honor two distinguished alumni with the Torch of Leadership Award. Reconnect with past classmates and help welcome the IALP Class of 2022 while enjoying food and fun!

Illinois Ag Leadership Program (IALP) participants – past and present – are encouraged to nominate a person who exemplifies agricultural leadership. The bi-annual Torch of Leadership Award is presented to alumni of the IALP who have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills through personal commitment and service to agriculture in their professional life, community, government, or education. These contributions can be at a local, state, national, or international level and will be evaluated based on the information provided in the nomination form.
