The GovHack Victoria team already have plans for what the 2020 competition will look like and are looking for volunteers to help shape and influence the way the first digital version of the GovHack competition is delivered across Victoria! Read on below for a list of roles available.

GovHack Victoria Regional Operations Team Roles

GovHack is brought to each state/region through the hard work of a Regional Operations Team (ROT), who are responsible for coordinating all GovHack activities in that region. This team is led by a Regional Director. 

The ROT is responsible for managing local sponsorship; marketing; community liaison; data management and technical support. They will also deliver the Connections pre-event (digital), the State hackathon event (digital) and the State Awards night (digital). 

 

We are looking to recruit a team of 4-5 and require individuals in the following roles or to assist with a few of these areas: 

  • Deputy Regional Director – support RD and work with the team to deliver GovHack
  • Regional Sponsorship – liaise with local sponsors and International Operations Team (IOT) Sponsorship Director to ensure needs of sponsors are met locally. 
  • Regional Marketing and Communications – responsible for local social media, passing ideas/contacts for articles to IOT Marketing, local promotion and engagement. 
  • Regional Technical Support–  engage with IOT Tech Team in the lead up to the competition to understand the technology and systems for the competition and assist competitors over the weekend competition. 
  • Regional Community Outreach– to reach out to local community groups and organisations and establish relationships for ongoing support and interaction.

Requirements for Victoria Regional Team Applications

  • Skilled / experienced in one or more of the areas listed above
  • Knowledge or awareness of GovHack or a similar large scale Hackathon
  • Proven time management skills
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Awareness / adept with basic technology (e.g familiar with Google suite, zoom) 
  • A resident of Victoria

GovHack MC / Local Site Hosts for Victoria

Our Event Hosts are the on-the-ground people that make GovHack happen. Traditionally, they organised physical events, catering and local sponsorship.

This year, with our digital competition, the role has changed – with the physicality removed, our event hosts are now Online Facilitators / MCs of local GovHack events

 

As an Online Event Host you will be

  • Working with your Regional Director to facilitate local sponsorship
  • Work with your Region Team and GovHacks’ support teams to facilitate team formation and building
  • Work with your co-Event Hosts in the region to develop a roster of online support, during the GovHack competition weekend
  • Engage with participants during the GovHack Region Connections Event
  • Provide direction to find technical support and other support to competitors, during the competition weekend. Training will be provided by the GovHack Technology team for this
 

Essential experience & skills for 2020

  • Great Communicator ➡ we want someone to excite participants!
  • Facilitation & Leadership Experience ➡ you must be able to delegate, be confident in pointing people in the right direction and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
  • Energetic, fun and adaptable! ➡ We need you to direct and lead with confidence and flair! 
  • Strong experience / skills in working remotely ➡ through text and video conferencing platforms (Slack, Zoom etc).
  • An interest in Hackathons ➡ or a passion for GovHack!
  • Ability to work under pressure ➡ and to set deadlines.
  • Reliable ➡ your team will be dependent on you.
