Transforming our understanding of how social, cultural and community assets can support mental health

MARCH Network Newsletter
May 2020

Creativity and Wellbeing Week / Mental Health Awareness Week

These two annual events, Creativity and Wellbeing Week and Mental Health Awareness Week couldn’t be happening at a more important time. As many start a third month of distancing and isolation measures, we celebrate and champion the ways that communities and organisations have come together to support the mental health of the nation, either through volunteering, through the arts, through a connection with nature and the outdoors, or by bringing their support to others online.

The COVID-19 Social Study started in the first few days of lockdown, and there are now over 95,000 participants involved. We are grateful to MARCH members for sharing the study widely and for taking part. Concerns and issues raised from the data are shared with key decision makers each week. Weekly reports, blogs and news on the study can be found at our new website: www.covidsocialstudy.org

We are also now carrying out telephone interviews to hear more about people’s experiences of social distancing and self-isolation during the covid-19 pandemic and the impact it might be having on wellbeing and mental health. If you are interested in taking part, information on the interviews can be found here or contact Alex directly.

Professor Phil Davis from the University of Liverpool who leads our ‘Shared Reading: Literature, Libraries and Mental Health’ Special Interest Research Group is the subject of this month’s MARCH Network Podcast, hosted by early career researcher Henry Aughterson.

The MARCH Plus Funds deadline is 31 May at 5pm - if you have any last-minute questions please get in touch.

We appreciate that this is a challenging time for everyone. We hope that you and your families remain well.
