The Predict Database (COVID-19)
The predict database is an initiative by the COVID predict group, and is currently led by Martijn Beudel. The database contains data from 2400 patients, and the information harvested is based on the WHO CRF, and is carried out in 11 Dutch hospitals, including Amsterdam UMC using using Castor and Pacmed. The database is used for predicting the clinical course of COVID-19 using machine learning and algorithms based on data gathered on patients’ medical history, situation when admitted to hospital and clinical course after admittance. It also contains a vast information on motor behaviour and movement disorders, and should be of interest to AMS researchers. Access to the database can currently be requested via dr. Beudel (m.beudel@amsterdamumc.nl with a cc to ams@vu.nl). The proposal must comply with the WMO protocol, and Predict’s DPIA, and if granted access, a datasharing agreement must be signed.

Nathalie Bravenboer New Head Tissue Function & Regeneration Research Program
Nathalie Bravenboer, Senior researcher in Bone Biology at Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc succeeds Richard Jaspers, who recently was appointed director of AMS. A central question in dr. Bravenboer’s research is: how can we increase bone strength with mechanical stress? The aim of the Tissue Function and Regeneration research program is to develop and combine (new) techniques to investigate musculoskeletal and skin tissue regeneration at different biological length scales, either isolated or integrated in a two-dimensional (2D) or 3D environment. To this end a network of clinicians, physiotherapists, basic scientists, and private partners will be created facilitating a multi-way traffic between fundamental and applied sciences to develop new interventions, biomaterials, as well as training and therapy.

Corona Reseach Fund Supports Research on Recovery COVID-19 patients
The Corona Research Fund of the Amsterdam UMC has awarded €50.000 for a research project aimed at gaining insight into the functional recovery of COVID-19 patients. Edwin Geleijn, Carel Meskers and Marike van der Leeden of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine (Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc), together with a team of data-scientists and ICF experts from VU/VUmc, will work on this project. The project has to answer the questions: How do patients with COVID-19 recover in their functioning, during and after hospitalization? And how can we best shape the rehabilitation of COVID-19 patients with knowledge about factors that influence this recovery? By collecting and analysing text data from electronic patient records of COVID-19 patients from hospitals, rehabilitation centres, nursing homes and first-line physiotherapists, the research team expects to get answers to these questions.
