May 2020
Greetings from Maine, where I have been holed up since early April.  I often make light of my nomadic existence and lament the fact I have not slept in the same place for more than two consecutive weeks since 2012.  Well, I ‘m happy to report I ‘ve been here and done that for the past five weeks and will be damn happy to hit the road soon.

The music business has been hit hard by the virus, but so have most businesses, and I read yesterday that about half of folks in the leisure and hospitality industry are out of work.  Equally frightening is that getting back to the old normal may take a year or two.  In the meantime, we are all learning how to function in the workplace in the new normal.

In my case, my workplace happens to be much of North America, where different regions have vastly different cases of the virus, and vastly different policies on responsible and gradual re-opening.  The best I can do is count on all my friends and supporters around the country to steer me in the right direction on beginning to play again.  You’ll have to bear with me that some new bookings may be announced with only three or four weeks’ notice, and there will be a few cancellations or postponements along the way.  I’ll do my best to keep to you abreast of everything through my website and social media.
PACKING FOR TEXAS
We have been on the phone most of week with my contacts in Texas and some of the surrounding states and have made the decision to spend June 10 through the beginning of July in that part of the country.  We have a half dozen shows in the works for Texas and details will be announced next week.  I will also be performing in Tucson at Fini’s Landing on June 23 and hoping to possibly book some shows in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas and Colorado.

Early July has me in Montana and possibly Calgary and then on to the Midwest for the entire month of July, so stay tuned.

HOUSE CONCERTS

I started playing house concerts about ten years ago, and they have become a staple of some singer songwriters’ tour schedules.  Because they are nearly all outdoors, hosting typically 40 or 50 people and with lots of space, they are a good option for these times. If anyone is interested in hosting one, please e-mail me at: scott@scottkirby.com and Julie Draper or I will get right back to you.

I’ve enjoyed doing streaming shows of Facebook live from my Boathouse studio and will be playing one tonight at 8pm eastern. Please go on my Facebook page to watch.  My Facebook page is scottkirby.  All one word.
Thanks for listening,
