Prayers for the Week

Let us all continue to hold in prayer all those affected by the coronavirus (especially health care workers and those caring for our most vulnerable sisters and brothers) and...
  • Please keep Terrie and Lex Sleeman and all of Terrie’s family in your prayers this week.  Terrie’s brother, John, passed away in Phoenix, AZ after a long battle with cancer.
  • For Fran Mealey's daughter, Kim,  who remains in the hospital searching for answers to a number of serious health concerns.
  • For those whose plans have been changed or cancelled during this time of pause, particularly for our graduates(high school, college and trade school) whose in person graduation ceremonies have been cancelled, and those rearranging wedding and travel plans.
  • For those who are struggling with the challenges of social distancing.
  • We continue our prayers for Rose McNulty, Marjorie Rose, Bev Boynton, Herb and June Konz, Courtney Pedersen, Josh, Lois Spencer, Susan, and Maura.

General Announcements

Sharing Your Gifts With the Church
Share the Gift of Music!
If you would like to record a video of a piece of music at home for one of our Sunday worship videos, please e-mail me (nicole@fairportumc.org). I will let you know what format it needs to be in and how/when to get it to me. It is a very different experience recording these worship services, and I would love to have a way for our musicians to share their talents during our pandemic time of online worship. -Nicole Camilleri

Share Photos in My Music Videos!
I’d like to offer a new opportunity to keep our congregation connected! If you would like to send me photos that you’ve taken, I will try to make a new video of piano music and photographs as a way of connecting our congregation through music and pictures. I am a novice at this, but I thought it would be nice to include photos from others…nature, kids’ artwork, people…things that will inspire us and calm us and help us feel connected during this time. E-mail me if you would like to share some of your pictures (nicole@fairportumc.org)!
Please make sure that if there are people in your pictures, they are okay with being in a video. Names will not be used, except the people who have sent me the photos on the title page. The video will be uploaded to YouTube and then shared in the weekly e-mail and on the church’s Facebook page.- Nicole Camilleri

Sharing Inspiration!
If you would like to share some inspiration with the church community through poetry, music, words, singing...for the weekly E-News please let
Pastor Richelle know. You are a gifted and talented church. Share the love!

Ways to Serve Our Local Community

We are called as faithful followers of Jesus to serve those who are in need.  During this time of global crisis, the needs of our community are growing daily.  Please read below for ways that FUMC is asking for your help to serve the most in need:

Outreach to St. Joe's House of Hospitality
St Joseph’s House of Hospitality is a Rochester Catholic Worker community which provides food, clothing, shelter and spiritually-centered care for the homeless and marginalized people in the city of Rochester.    We have been partnering with them on outreach projects for several years.  During this Covid-19 crisis they serve a bag lunch program to 60 people every day that includes 2 sandwiches and a snack.  They also pass out 5-10 grocery bags a day of non-perishable items for people/families who do have a place to stay but lack food resources. With the help from UMW, UMM, the Face Mask Task Force and $1,500 from 50/50 Outreach Fund we are helping to supply lunches and face masks! Of course the need is great and anything else is also appreciated.

Mark Renfro does a drop-off every Friday of the items they are most in need of (as well as lunch supplies).  If you want to help support the effort by donating items, you can drop them off on the front porch of Mark Renfro’s house – 50 South Ave, on the corner of South Ave and George St at the opposite end of the block that our church is on.  The list of items needed will be updated every week in the weekly emails.
For this week they are in need of:

- small bags of rice
- canned soups
- canned beans
- boxed pasta

The Face Mask Task Force
Due to the incredible efforts of time and talent, The Face Mask Task Force were able to deliver 40 adult masks and 17 children’s masks to Sanctuary House and 24 masks to St. Francis Center!  Many thanks to Ellie Robinson, Brenda Deever and Karen Felgenhour for donating their time and talents to this cause!

We realize that the need at shelters for both adult and children’s face masks will continue for months to come.  For that reason, we are inviting any sewers within Fairport UMC to join in the work of this newly established Face Mask Task Force!  Please be aware that we are willing to travel to your house to pick up masks to be delivered to the shelters.  If you are interested in becoming a part of this effort, please contact Sue Striegel (sgolembe@gmail.com) or Judy Bermudez (judybermudez@hotmail.com).

Currently, FUMC providing three shelters with masks: Sanctuary House, The Francis Center and St. Joseph's House of Hospitality.  The Francis Center is no longer in need of masks but could use blankets and towels ( gently used are fine) and old magazines. Please leave at church with label and they will be delivered.  Thank you.

Perinton Food Shelf
We are in very low supply of the following: gravy, mayonnaise, salad dressings, salad oil, applesauce in jars or cans (not cups), canned potatoes, dried potato mixes, corned or roast beef hash, beef stew, canned pears, ketchup , mustard, cake mixes, brownie mixes, baking mixes, frosting, coffee. Donations may be dropped off at the Perinton Community Center behind the back of the building where there are bins to be filled. Red Bird Market also accepts donations. Thank you so much to everyone in the community who has helped us out. We are so grateful.

Spring has Sprung!  Mowing the Lawn at Church

Volunteers are needed to help with lawn mowing at the Fairport United Methodist Church.  Please click this link to view the online sign up sheet.  We have all the tools needed for the job.  Your time to mow at church and the little house are greatly appreciated.  If someone doesn't have internet access they can contact Ken Fischer (585-216-7611) or Ed Caskey (585-738-2043)  to check dates and sign up.  Thank you!

The Upper Room Devotional

Many members of our congregation find The Upper Room daily devotional a helpful guide to deepening their spirituality and look forward to the latest copy in the Parlor.  While the church is closed, the Upper Room publishers have offered the May/June publication as a digital download for you to enjoy anywhere.  Click here to download your copy, as well as pocket prayer books for prayers of comfort, courage, hope, and grace in times of sickness.

She is available to have a Face Time or Zoom visit at request. Thank you to all those who are helping care for one another!

One Year in the Bible

The whole church is invited to join the Children's Ministry Team in taking time this year to explore the bible!  You can read about key events and people in the Bible. You’ll get an overview of what happened…and why it matter so much! You can pick up a reading plan (purple paper) from the Parlor.  Happy reading – our prayer is that you and your family grow closer to each other and to God as you embark on your journey through the Bible.  Questions?  Ask Joy Leinenbach,
The reading for this week is Daniel’s StoryDaniel 6
