Hi Folks
Agriculture is, of course, directly related to weather conditions. Last week’s cold weather heavily impacted our squash, zucchini and green beans. While we covered our tomatoes, it was impractical to try and cover these other crops. Additionally, we also took a risk and planted these crops early. Sometimes you are successful and sometimes you are impacted.

For your future use, we are including a link to some very good information from the Cooperative Extension Service below on handling our unusual weather conditions.

Frost and Freeze Protection
Harvest from Last Week
Our regular garden work time is scheduled for this Saturday, May 16 at 9:00. We will be harvesting spinach, onions and other leafy greens for distribution at Tri Area Ministries.  We will be replanting several crops that were directly affected by last weekend’s cold weather.

With the stay at home orders in place, many of you have not been able to join us at the garden. We know your home gardens are well underway and as such, we would be interested in seeing them. Send any photos to Brian or Gene and we will try to include them in a future newsletter.

With the continuing issues, our work crew will be limited to ten individuals and must include only middle schoolers and above.  If you are interested in volunteering this Saturday , please text or call Gene Cross at 919-604-3577.  This contact is important and will ensure that volunteer levels remain around ten.  If you plan to volunteer, please bring your own work gloves for use in the garden.

All volunteers should evaluate whether they are in the high-risk category or if perhaps have symptoms or have been around anyone with symptoms.
Our Mission: Connecting people to their neighbors, God, and the land through sustainable agriculture by providing fresh, healthy food for local needs.

Volunteer Times: Saturday mornings 9:00-12:00
