Vale Dick White

The South Australian harness racing community were deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of industry stalwart and enthusiast and much-loved identity Dick White.

Dick was a revered and much respected horseman who, after excelling in the rodeo ranks turned his skills to harness racing where he enjoyed considerable success as an owner, a trainer and as a driver.

However, it was Dick's passion for the square-gaiters, and his willingness to take on challenging horses, and turning them into winners, that stood him aside from many others.

As well as his involvement in rodeo and harness racing, he performed clerk of the course duties at both metropolitan and country race tracks. Passing these skills to close friends and family.

Dick was active in the committee ranks of the Kapunda Harness Racing Club and the SA Square Trotters Association.

Dick also mentored and assisted numerous other participants during his harness racing career.

While Dick was seen as a rugged individual, he certainly had a gentle side which everyone that knew him witnessed and experienced.

As well as his involvement in the equine pursuits, Dick also made a name for himself as the poster-boy for a prominent SA clothing and footwear company, when they adopted a picture taken at the Carrieton Rodeo with Dick riding CloudBuster. This picture being used to epitomise the Rodeo industry at large.

Dick was a legend among the South Australian Harness Racing community and he will be sorely missed. We express our sincere condolences to Dicks wife Janet and extend our deepest sympathies to his children Maryanne, Anita and Kate as well as his extended family.

HRSA commends our participants for their co-operation thus far and encourage you to continue do the right thing by your family and industry – if you feel unwell or have a temperature please stay home.

Globe Derby Park - Saturday 16th May 2020
Overview of meeting:

Race 1: TAB BET ONLINE PACE

DONT TELL WILLIAM (8) looks ready to win again. This is his fourth run back from a spell and a slight drop down in class compared to his recent starts. He was only beaten 1.6 meters behind the in form BETTORHAVTIME last week and should be able to lob into a nice position off the second row and is a major winning chance.

RONZEL GRINNER (2) has been racing in some strong form recently. He was only beaten by a head behind GLENRAE HANOVER last week. Looks the likely leader tonight and he will be right in the mix.

FOR THE CORZ (3) has been hard to fault recently. She has won 2 from her last 4 and was only beaten a half head in her most recent run behind AH LA VITESSE. She will be around the mark again tonight.

DONT TELL ALICE (4), KARMIC FIRE (5), POCKET THEDEAL (6) and ACE TO PLAY (1) are all chances in what appears to be a very even race.

Race 2: JOHN ROTHE VIDEO PACE

JUST CAPPY (8) found it tough last week after sitting outside  the leader for the entire race and ended up getting beaten by a half head behind MARTYS PARTY. He will lob into a nice position off the second row tonight. He is a class horse and he should be able to bounce back after last week.

CHANGEUP (1) was a winner at big odds last week after he led all  the way to defeat MISS PEGGY ONEILL by 4.3 meters. Looks the likely leader again tonight and should be right in the mix.

LOMA JACCKA (5) looks ready to win again after finishing third behind SIR LUCAS and HESASHARK last start. She will find it a little tricky from the draw but is a strong winning chance against this field.

IMTELLINYA (3) and ONE NIGHT AT THEMILE (6) are both each way chances.

Race 3: TAB PACE

SIR ROMAN (1) returned to the winners list last start when he defeated SIR LUCAS by 10.2 meter and will be tough to beat again tonight from the inside draw.

MASONJON (8) has been in some very impressive form over the last 2 months. He has won 2 and has been placed 3 times from his last 5 starts. He is worth consideration again tonight.

AH LA VITESSE (2) has won 2 of her last 3. She is also worth consideration along with THE OCTAGON (3).

Race 4: HYGAIN MICRSPEED PACE

KENTSFORD KENNY (8) has been racing in some strong form recently. He was a strong winner last week when he defeated CELESTIAL DAYBREAK by 7.3 meters. If he can get the right run into the race he should be able to hit the line well.

IM THE MIGHTY JUDD (4) was a winner last start after defeating  MAGIC TRUMP by 2.9 meters. Looks the likely leader and should be right in the mix again tonight.

BIEN HOA (6), SIR SPOKESY (3) and MANLY MACH (1) are also chances.

Race 5: VALE DICK WHITE TROTTERS HANDICAP

A decent field has been assembled for the trotters race.

GOODTIME PE RABBIT (7) can do things wrong but when he trots cleanly is a very handy trotter. He was a winner 2 starts back when he defeated MIZURRI by 15.5 meters. If on his best behaviour tonight he will be tough to beat.

BLUE SPARKLER (8) was only beaten 10.7 meters in his most recent run after hitting the line extremely well after beginning off a 50 meter handicap. He comes back to the 30 meter handicap tonight and should be in the mix if he repeats his most recent effort.

KYVALLEY KID (3) and HOPPERS DREAMH (1) look the next best.

Race 6: SA BOTRA MEMBERS PACERS DISCRETIONARY

BETTORHAVTIME (6) looks a class above here. He is going for 6 wins a row tonight. He does have the 30 meter handicap to overcome but that shouldn’t phase him. He will be very tough to beat.

FUTURIST (3), OH I AM THE ONE (2) and ROBERT THE BRUCE (4) look the next best.

Race 7: ARCLIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY MARES PACE

ILLAWONG GERRY (6) was impressive last week after running second behind the in form UNCLE LEO. He was only beaten by 4.7 meters and a repeat of that run will see him feature tonight.

BELLA SOFIA (1) looks well suited from the inside draw. Looks the likely leader and she does have the ability to take this out.

PROMISE AT DAWN (3) and JO JO DREAMING (5) look the next best.

Policy Changes

As we prepare for life after Covid-19, HRSA, as SA’s harness racing regulator, needs to ensure that the industry in the state is best positioned to meet the challenges moving forward.
While we are constantly looking to grow and enhance our product, we nonetheless need to ensure that we continue to challenge costs and reduce industry overhead wherever possible.
Consequently, HRSA have embarked on a series of procedural changes that will create greater organisational and economic efficiencies within our organisation. Two changes advised are: -
  1. Race Nominations
Effective 1st July 2020 all racing nominations must be made by way of HarnessWeb.
In making this determination HRSA is mindful of time occupied by Racing Office staff in dealing with telephone calls relating to nominations, which on many occasions, are unnecessary with the time involved in dealing with these matters being considerable.
We understand that these changes represent a significant shift for some who have not previously used the HarnessWeb portal. However, should anyone require assistance is setting up a HarnessWeb account, including being shown how to navigate the site, and how to nominate, then please contact the HRSA office and we will assist you with the transition.
Note: It is important that when nominating for more than one race at a meeting that you preference the most desirable race. This greatly assisting when fields are being drawn.
  1. On-Line Scratching’s
Effective immediately, trainers wishing to scratch a horse from an engagement at a race meeting can do so through the HarnessWeb portal.
Previously this facility was only available prior to the close of nominations, however is now available up until acceptance time for a race meeting.
Trainers also now have the ability to scratch a horse online after the fields are released up until 9am on the day of the race. Any late scratchings will need to be made by contacting a Steward or the Racing Office as per the current policy.
This change will provide trainers with the ability to better manage their processes without the requirement to attempt to contact the Stewards or the Racing Office.

For further information please contact:
ROSS NEAL | CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
(08) 8285 0700 •  rneal@saharness.org.au
HARNESSWEB USERS
Participants will now be able to update their bank details through Harness Web….an individual, or Manager of a partnership will be allowed to make changes and it will automatically send an email to all partnership members.
NAMING APPLICATIONS

All Participants please note:

NAMING APPLICATIONS WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT A MINIMUM OF 4 PREFERENCES BEING SUBMITTED.

Thank you.
