Feel Free

We are not going to change the whole world, but we can change ourselves and feel free as birds. We can be serene even in the midst of calamities and, by our serenity, make others more tranquil. Serenity is contagious. If we smile at someone, he or she will smile back. And a smile costs nothing. We should plague everyone with joy. If we are to die in a minute, why not die happily, laughing?

God bless you. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.”    Sri Swami Satchidananda

Facing Challenges without Fear
By Sri Swami Satchidananda

If our aim is great, then our obstacles will also be very big. Always remember that without suffering we can never achieve anything great. That’s why I always say that the bigger the pain, the bigger the gain. No pain, no gain. Pain builds up a lot of strength in you. When you want to develop your bicep muscle, you use resistance training. As you bend the arm you also resist the movement, and the more you resist the stronger the muscle becomes.  MORE

How can we balance fear with equanimity? Ram Dass shares the antidote to fear, and the ways that we can allow our own humanity in order to extricate ourselves from the web of thought forms that create our own suffering.

What do the Yoga Sutras have to teach us about suffering? This article will discuss the philosophy of suffering and focus on Kriya Yoga (sutra 2.1) as a practice which we can use to resolve our suffering. It is a simple practice and I have found it to be very effective for the time in which we live.  MORE

I’ve drafted this email to my Yoga studio members: “When we return to our space, please leave your shoes at the front door, bring your own mat, wear a mask, wash your hands before and after class, and place your mat six feet away from others.” I’ve read and reread these lines in disbelief. I advocate that Yoga changes lives, but I’m equally a practical mother and yogini who is unsure if reopening will happen. On March 15th, my studio, Alamo City Yoga in San Antonio, Texas, was full of yogis.  MORE  [Editor's Note: Please continue to support your local Yoga centers. They need you & the world needs them!]

In this short video, Swami Ramananda offers some additional inspiration on "Sending Prayers," our Integral Yoga teaching of the month. Read the article as well, where Ramanandaji shares that "One of the most powerful things we can do is to send prayerful energies.

In November 1977, Prevention magazine published the first of two articles about Integral Health Services—a groundbreaking integrative medicine clinic in Connecticut. Possibly the first health center of its kind in North America, it was based on the teachings and practices of Integral Yoga. Swami Satchidananda worked closely with Dr. Sandra (Amrita) McLanahan, medical director of the center, to establish a trailblazing endeavor to bring Yoga & wellness practices together in a what would be a foreshadowing of today's "Lifestyle Medicine." Satchidananda Farm, which supplies the Ashram with its organic produce, began making greens available in a wonderful way for the greater Yogaville community under quarantine. A few weeks ago, they began this new service. (photo: Ganesh MacIsaac leads the Farm team.)
The Farm set up a "drive through" near the Quad and each Tuesday, community members are able to drive up and receive a pound of freshly picked organic greens. As the growing season progresses the variety of veggies will also increase. (photo: Ganesh & his wife Karuna at the drive through; report/photos: Jeff Ananda Kamen).
