Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Alert Level 3!!! I'm feeling so proud of what NZ is achieving.
I really hope you are all managing ok out there. We have been happily working away in our bubble in our beautiful valley but know there are many people out there doing it hard. I feel so fortunate to be in such a good place physically and mentally during these times but really feel for those that aren't, as I imagine times in my life when I would have really struggled in our current situation.
I did get some really good news just before the lockdown.....
PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD
I'm was thrilled to have been awarded the 2020 Friends Peoples Choice Award for my installation 'BeeHaven' in this year's Auckland Botanic Gardens Biennial Sculpture in the Gardens.

'BEEHAVEN' FEATURES IN ART NEW ZEALAND
As part of a review of this years Sculpture in the Gardens, Michael Dunn wrote the following about my 'BeeHaven' installation in the Autumn edition of Art News Zealand.
"Equally striking and thought provoking is Jane Downes' Bee Haven, a structure placed around the framing of a garden pergola and made in part from plastic honey jars which are ordered to suggest the cells of a honeycomb. She has placed bees made from steel on and around the central structure. The rusted ochre colour and textures of the steel, as well as the conviction of her rendering of the bees, make for an original and effective sculpture. Placed in the garden where bees are sorely needed for pollination, her work explores its ecological theme to good effect. How better to reflect on the sad demise of these creatures than in a working garden environment?"

And some bad news.....
POSTPONED/CANCELLED EVENTS
Unfortunately the Covid 19 pandemic has led to the cancellation of several events in coming months.
Our Daleks were to be making several public appearances this winter:
At Light Nelson from 3 - 7 July which has been postponed until July 2021 and will emerge as a larger event ‘Te Ramaroa’ which will reflect the concept of a beacon that honours the past, celebrates the present, and holds a light to a bright and positive future.
...and at Botanic D'Lights which was to be held in the Christchurch Botanic Gardens from 5-9 August has also been postponed until June 2021.
I had also been selected to exhibit in NZ Sculpture Onshore in Devonport, Auckland this November but this event has been cancelled for 2020 and they are currently working on rescheduling thew event for a future date.
