Vol. 7. Issue 33

So far, the re-opening of the Elementary School has been going smoothly and we have been busy preparing for the return of our Secondary students from this upcoming Tuesday, 2 June. We very much look forward to welcoming our Middle and High School students back to school so that we can continue the academic learning that has happened virtually and enjoy the end of the school year together. The full plan on how we intend to safely reopen has now been shared with all Secondary School parents, staff and students, but feel free to reach out to communications@naisr.nl if there are any questions.

We are also happy to announce that our Elementary School will be reopening fully for the last two weeks of school. All students from Pre-K1 through to Grade 5 will be welcome at school every day from Monday, 8 June. More information will be shared with elementary parents next week.

We are very proud to announce the results from our annual Parent Satisfaction Survey. According to the feedback we received, 94% of parents say that their children are happy at our school, and 95% see that their children are making good progress. You can read the full survey results at the bottom of this newsletter and thank you for helping us make our school the best it can be.

Next week the PTSA will be running a teacher appreciation week with daily themes from Tuesday to Friday (see PTSA Corner below). Please join the PTSA in saying thanks to our “JAWSOME” teachers and staff from June 2-5! Students are asked to send an email or video message directly to teachers and staff expressing their thanks. Even though the school year and the NAISR Appreciation Week looks a little different than previous years, let’s not miss this opportunity to let our teachers and staff know how much we appreciate what they do and the impact they have on our lives.

Finally, please be reminded that this coming Monday, 1 June is Whit Monday, a public holiday, and the school will be closed.

All the best from our family to yours and enjoy your long weekend.

Although this year's event will look different to usual due to the COVID-19 event regulations, we will still be hosting a graduation ceremony for our Seniors on Saturday, 6 June. Guests will join virtually via live stream and we will do our utmost best to ensure that the ceremony is a special moment for our 'Class of 2020' graduates.
Virtual Kilimanjaro Climb
Would you climb the world's highest freestanding mountain? 5895 metres above sea level, 93000 steps, 1900 floors..  Many families and students from across Nord Anglia are doing just that now, only virtually, from the comfort of their own neighbourhoods. Every day, Nord Anglia climbers all over the world are logging into the Global Campus site and posting how many steps and floors they have climbed that day. Each day, the climbers get a little closer to the summit just by exercising around their neighbourhood. We are incredibly proud that the Sorondo family from NAISR have virtually summited Mt Kilimanjaro in record time, and hold 1st place out of all of Nord Anglia! Now, we are all rooting for the other NAISR climbers (Cunha and Gallagher families) as they move towards the summit. For everyone else, keep moving, and stay fit, healthy and positive. See more here >>>
End of Year Examinations
End of Year Examinations will be held for Grade 11 students from 3 to 12 June. An examination schedule will be shared with Grade 11 students and parents. This year, due to COVID-19, we will not be running formal end of year examinations for students in grades 9-10.   View G11 exam schedule >>>
Scratch Programming
Ever heard of Scratch programming? To improve his STEAM skills during distance learning, Grade 5 student Mohak has been learning how to code from home. To keep himself engaged and motivated, Mohak has created a YouTube channel so that he can share his knowledge with us all. The channel's name is 'Scratch Coding Ninja'. To view his videos and subscribe to his channel to learn more, click the link below. Way to go Mohak!

Library Books and Bags
Please return all Library books. This includes text books and English class novels etc (if no longer required). The end of year is quickly approaching, so we ask that all books are returned at your earliest convenience (with the exception of G11). Library bags should also be returned (with the exception of G5 and students leaving NAISR) and will be reissued in the new school year.
Calendar Change
Due to COVID-19, our Week Without Walls programme for the 2020-21 school year has been moved from September 2020 to May 2021.

Middle school students will have the opportunity to close the year together, with some adventurous team building. Information regarding excursions for high school students will be communicated next year.
MAP Testing
Elementary Students from K through to Grade 5 will be completing MAP testing assessments over the coming weeks. For the Kindergarten students, this will be the first time that they participate in these assessments (as a trial/practise run for next year).  Good luck to everyone!
G12 Spanish B Class Bakes
This week, our G12 Spanish students enjoyed an online cooking class with their teacher, Ms Noemi Castell. They learned how to make a Spanish omelette (Tortilla de patata), whilst reviewing food vocabulary and some grammar. This was their last Spanish lesson after five years with Ms Castell. We look forward to seeing these seniors graduate on June 6th, together with the rest of the Class of 2020.
