Ilya Safro, an associate professor of computer science and a Clemson School of Health Research Faculty Scholar, said that his team will soon roll out a new artificial intelligence system aimed at helping researchers explore the scientific literature as they strive for new discoveries to combat the novel coronavirus. NIH Funding for Spinal Deformities Treatment
Hai Yao, the Ernest R. Norville Endowed Chair and Professor in the Department of Bioengineering, is working to advance his research on spinal deformities. He aims to develop a novel technique to correct spinal deformities without anchoring rods to the spine with screws. Read more here.

Health Sciences Center COVID-19 Seed Grants awarded
Clemson University has received seed grant funding from the Health Sciences Center at Prisma Health for several COVID-19 research projects. The HSC awarded a total of $201,398 in funding to researchers of HSC’s partners Clemson University, Furman University, Prisma Health and University of South Carolina. - The Life Science Washington Institute is hosting a free webinar on COVID-19 and Commercialization Funding on June 4 at 1 p.m. Learn more about how the Office of Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) is working to identify and fund medical countermeasures to address the SARS-CoV2 pandemic. - The Medical University of South Carolina Department of Public Health Sciences is presenting a series of COVID-19 webinars on June 5, June 12, and June 19. More information can be found here.
- The Clemson University Academy of Nursing for Excellence in Healthcare Design presents: Research and Publication – Making it Happen! This focused time on research and publications will be aimed at increasing the scholarly work and professional presence of nurses and architects in the field of research and evidence-based design. Participants will have access to modules where industry leaders in research and publication will share insight on the research landscape, beginning July 11, and can participate in a webinar to culminate the learning on July 31.
