DS Joyner to preach this Sunday on the District! Can I take a minute to give a shout out to all of the clergy and worship leaders on the Eastern Shore? This Sunday, I am offering a worship and sermon resource for use on May 17. District Superintendents around the Annual Conference are doing this as a way of saying thanks to our pastors, musicians, and other leaders who have been learning so much and working so hard to provide us worship experiences by other means. I have huge respect for what you have been doing.
Unfortunately, I’m behind the curve! Putting together this service was a joy, but it certainly reminded me that there is a whole lot that goes into these video productions and I have not been keeping up with these new times. Fortunately I had the able production help of Michael Henry, director of Camp Occohannock on the Bay, to work with me. He spent hours getting a final edit done.
You can access the service in at least 4 ways Sunday, May 17:
1. Live Service on Zoom, 10 am -Sunday morning at 10 AM I will be offering a live Zoom where you can see the service with me. Persons who need to call in by phone can also use one of the phone numbers with the link below to access that Zoom.
2. Facebook Watch Party, 11 am --I am working on a Facebook watch party at 11 AM on Sunday. Look for a link on my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/alejojoyner
3.WESRRadio, 12 noon -The Rev. Cathy Fielding has also given me the time she usually has on Sunday at 12 noon on WESR 103.3. You can hear the sermon portion at that time on her “We Are the Church” program.
Just Released! A plan to oversee how churches would safely return to in-person worship!
In a letter from May 9, Bishop Lewis shared that a return to in-person worship would be phased beginning with "drive-in" worship for all churches under strict guidelines and the authorization of some "pioneer" churches to open on May 24 under strict guidelines.
A workgroup of church leaders, medical professionals, and legal professionals have prepared a comprehensive plan which includes: summary of the plan, handbook, visual presentation, and more for churches to plan on how to approach this phased return to in-person worship. Details are available on the Virginia Conference website at www.vaumc.org/return
DS has scheduled Sat., May 16, 2 pm to present the "Plan for Return to In-Person Worship Join DS Joyner this Saturday in Zoom Session with clergy and laity!
