GALLERY OPTIONS: YOUR RESPONSES
In the last issue we outlined the issues the Board has been wrestling with regarding the short and long term viability of operating a gallery.
Thirty people responded thoughtfully, some at length, some several times. The Board and Committee leaders have reviewed all letters.
Here's an approximation of positions:
  • Keep the gallery: 11
  • Close the gallery: 8
  • Miscellaneous suggestions, best wishes: 11
Thanks to everyone for writing. This was not a vote, but it does help the Board know what some members (and others) expect to be done or are prepared to do, or not do. An expanded Board meeting will take place on Monday May 18 to consider next steps.
VIRTUAL STUDIO TOUR:
CAROLYN RITCHIE BEDFORD
"I'm taking advantage of this lockdown to catch up on some work, unfinished work, while  progressing on my current projects. It makes for a change to refresh and head back to the slower work. The work is a five
figure installation piece on Closing.  It is armature wire and winter stone, with figures almost as tall as myself.
Also I'm building a 12 foot shark
in the welding shop with a partner in steel, Randy Sutherland. However, as
it's social distancing, I'm left to work it out on my own for now as a start up. My spouse is standing in for Randy.

I completed a two year, 30
piece painting exhibit submission

waiting for a home and starting a new
one, Time and Space. The most difficult part is reading a physics book on the meaning of time within that field.

Also did a Covid piece and am part way
through a portrait painting of myself and my beloved to celebrate our support to each other.
I may make an artist of him yet."

WHERE WILL THE VIRTUAL STUDIO TOUR STOP NEXT?
Why not at your studio? You've been creating art for many months now, haven't you?
Just send a photo or two of what you've been working on, and one of you, of course.
Send to president@lunenburgartsociety.ca by May 28.
A LITTLE HELP:
DO YOU NEED SOME
or CAN YOU GIVE SOME?
This pandemic is like a tornado: it scares everyone, skips over most, but can deliver damaging blows to some. Here is some helpful advice for artists who may be suffering by a sudden drop in sales, from CARFAC, the Canadian Artists Representation / Le Front des Artistes Canadiens.
If you are doing okay, perhaps you can help NSCAD students in distress through this Student Emergency Fund.
And here's a hug for everyone who needs one!
Have you been outside for a walk or some gardening? Did the black flies chase you back in the house? They do help with stay-at-home compliance.
