Ivy Tech’s Valparaiso campus has been producing hundreds of face shields with 3D printers! So far, Ivy Tech has provided these shields locally to Porter Regional Hospital and Health Linc, and more shields are on their way to Indiana hospitals, nursing homes, fire departments, medical clinics and health departments with a central distribution center at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In addition to these efforts, Ivy Tech Community College State Board of Trustees member, Marianne Glick, and her spouse, Mike Woods, have committed $500,000 in matching funds across the state for Ivy Tech’s newly established COVID-19 Relief Fund to assist students. The COVID-19 Relief Fund will provide increased flexibility to assist campuses in meeting unforeseen challenges head-on in the coming days. For more information on the Covid-19 Relief Fund and where to donate please visit impact.ivytech.edu/COVID.Relief.Fund

Patients who have delayed surgery or other non-emergency procedures can now work with their physician to secure care as Porter Health Care System, including Porter Regional Hospital, has successfully resumed some outpatient elective services. Telehealth will continue to be available for visits at Porter Physician Group offices, as needed. Clinic staff are being kept to a minimum to maintain appropriate social distancing. Appointments are being staggered and patients come in one at a time to minimize wait times. The hospital’s plan to restart elective procedures at the appropriate time was made in consultation with the board of trustees, medical executive committee and surgical leadership and follows all local, state and federal guidelines.

Congratulations 2020 Graduates! In our June issues, North Valpo Neighbors and South Valpo Neighbors would like to help honor the 2020 high school and college graduates whose families live in the Valparaiso area. If you have a family member, or you know of someone who is graduating this year, we would love their name and a photo (with photo release) and what school (and major for college graduates). If you mention if they live North or South of Lincolnway, that would be great! Please send the information to djortner@bestversionmedia.com
