Superintendent Updates as of 5/15/2020

Good Evening Sulphur Springs Families,

This is Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi, Superintendent, with your Friday Update, May 15, 2020.

I want to express my appreciation to our teachers, Principals, and support staff who worked really hard to make sure that your child’s personal items were ready for pick-up this past week. If you were unable to pick-up your child’s items this week, another time will be scheduled for families to pick-up their child’s belongings. Your child’s Principal will send out a message as to when the new pick-up time and date will be.

Please note that families that have children in the State Preschool Program at Mint, Leona Cox, and Canyon Springs Community Schools will have their own deployment of student items on Friday, May 22nd. Mary Mercogliano, Director of the State Preschool Program, will be sendingout additional information to these families.

I wanted to also share with you that the District is forming a Task Force of stakeholders to
discuss the re-opening of our schools in August. The Task Force will ensure that all discussions will be focused on the health and well-being of students and staff. In addition, the Task Force will be discussing a variety of instructional delivery models in case schools are only permitted to open under certain conditions as directed by LA County Department of Public Health. We are currently working on a survey for families to get your feedback on distance learning so we can continue to adjust to meet your child’s needs in this environment. The District will continue to provide families additional updates regarding the Task Force and its recommendations to prepare for the re-opening of our schools in the fall.

the free nutritional food at Canyon Springs and/or Mitchell Community Schools between
12:00PM and 1:00PM. We so appreciate your support with working to continue to protect
our staff as well as our families.

NOTICE FROM THE DISTRICT:

Dear Pinetree Families,

I am calling to inform you that Pinetree’s Principal Ms. Deb Stilson will be moving out of the area at the end of the school year, and therefore will not be returning as principal for the 2020-2021 school year. 

Your child’s education and well-being are our most important priorities. One of our goals is to maintain consistency for the students and staff at Pinetree Community School through this transition as the community welcomes a new principal for the 2020-2021 school year. With this in mind, the selection process to establish a new principal for Pinetree Community School has begun.  We look forward to the completion of the hiring process before the end of the school year, and Ms. Stilson will be available to assist the new Principal to ensure a smooth transition.
