Issaquah's Recovery Task Force
As we continue Issaquah’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s critical that we engage our community on what a safe, phased “reopening” means.
Earlier this month, I appointed a Recovery Task Force, which represents many important perspectives in Issaquah (see the list of our members online).
So far, we’ve held two meetings:
- May 7 included introductions; a briefing of our response to date; and City Hall’s new budget realities.
- May 14 included presentations on economic development from community partners, as well as a brainstorm on the group’s workplan moving forward, which will focus on community health, economic recovery, community engagement and more.
Our next virtual meeting will be held at 4 p.m. May 28. Community members can watch live, submit comments to the group ahead of time, or join us for public comment.
I’m extremely grateful for these volunteers’ expertise, service and dedication to our community.

County Directive on Face Coverings
According to Public Health – Seattle & King County, residents are directed to wear face coverings in most public settings starting May 18, 2020.
Everyone is strongly urged to wear face coverings in places such as:
- Stores that sell food and beverages
- Retail stores
- Restaurant take-out and food businesses
- Cannabis shops and stores that sell dietary supplements
- Tobacco and vapor shops
- Buses, light rail, and other forms of public transportation
A face covering is not needed when you are outside walking, exercising or otherwise outdoors if you are able to regularly stay six feet away from other people who do not live with you.
Please use cloth face coverings, and save medical masks for healthcare workers and people who have special health needs.
In addition, please note that some people do not need to follow this directive (learn more online). And while King County is strongly encouraging individuals to comply with this directive, there is no criminal, civil, or financial penalty for failing to wear a face covering in these settings.
