We are excited to welcome you to the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) at The Ohio State University! We wish we could be together in person and we know that attending orientation online may feel a bit odd or overwhelming, but we hope that by the time you finish you’ll feel confident and prepared for the fall semester.

Before you attend orientation, we’d like to learn a bit about you and collect some information we’ll need to help you schedule. Please log on to Carmen at carmen.osu.edu, our course management system, and look for the ENR Orientation course module. Follow the directions to submit a short introduction of yourself, take the “Pre-orientation Schedule Preparation” quiz, and review the pre-orientation modules. You can also access the quiz from this link: go.osu.edu/SENR_prescheduling. Please complete these tasks at least one week in advance of your orientation date. |

During orientation, you’ll attend two sessions with SENR Advising Staff. Here’s a little bit about what to expect:

Day 1, 2:00 pm Eastern – SENR Academic Overview & Scheduling Preparation
We’ll meet for a live CarmenZoom session to give you an introduction to our School, an overview of important academic information, and help you start planning your fall schedule! This will be a group session. Parents or guests are welcome to listen in on this session. There will be important modules for you to review in Carmen, our course management system, before our session. You will log on to our Day 1 session from this CarmenZoom link: go.osu.edu/SENRorientationZoom.

Day 2 – Student Scheduling & SENR Parent/Guest Session
You’ll meet one-on-one with an SENR academic advisor and schedule your courses. The scheduling session is for students only. You will receive two emails in advance of this session. The first will provide instructions on how to schedule your advising appointment. The second will come directly from an SENR academic advisor and include personalized information including course suggestions for your fall schedule, math placement, and information on credit you have already earned from AP/IB and College Credit Plus (if applicable). This guidance is informed by what you have submitted on your pre-scheduling quiz, so make sure you take care of that at go.osu.edu/SENR_prescheduling at least a week in advance of your program.

Parents and guests are encouraged to attend a special information session led by Esther DeBusk, our Student Engagement & Undergraduate Recruitment Manager, and Lucia Hadella, our Career Development Coordinator. They’ll offer valuable information on the transition to college and environmental careers. This session will be offered via the Zoom meeting from noon-1:00PM on Orientation Day 2 at go.osu.edu/SENRparents-guests with the password: goBucks! |

Despite all the helpful information you will receive at orientation, we know that starting your career at Ohio State can still be a big change. In order to make a large university feel a bit smaller, we want to help you start building community here within SENR!
|

|
During your first semester on campus, you’ll be part of a peer mentoring group led by two upper-class SENR students. These groups help make connections, answer burning questions, and give you easier access to resources. Your SENR peer mentors will reach out to you via email this summer and will be part of your ENR 1100 course during Autumn semester. Look out for their first emails this month!
