Dear <<First Name>>,
Japan is now opening and easing up on covid-19 related restrictions. However the government is still requesting us to avoid the "three-Cs:" Closed spaces, Crowded places, Close-contact settings.  Consequently many Japanese live in fear and anxiety. And so now is the opportune time to be a blessing and share the hope we have in Jesus Christ!
Going Virtual Has Its Challenges...
Transitioning online with meetings, seminars, sermons, and bible studies has gone quite smooth and has its benefits. But try singing together online with a choir. Now that has its challenges. Due to the inherent delay factor of the internet, it is currently impossible to do anything in-sync at the exact same time.

Virtual choirs have become popular recently. Watching dozens of people singing together on-screen is really fun. It appears that this was a live recording done all at once. The reality is these virtual choirs are full productions just like a music video that is time consuming and requires many steps: production planning / individual recordings / audio mixing / video editing.

Aoyama Gakuin University (AGU) gospel choir had to face a challenge. How can a choir recruit new students online? We dove in with producing our own version of a virtual choir. "After This" is the song they chose. They wanted to share to incoming students that "there will be glory after this"! Here are 2 versions: short version and teaser version. Enjoy!
What? How Many Joined?
Suddenly all the HGF (Hallelujah Gospel Family) black gospel choirs could no longer meet due to the shutdown. Without these regular choir gatherings, the need was even greater to share about the hope in Jesus Christ.

The challenge was how can you sing together online as a choir? The answer is you really can't due to the inherent delays of the internet. After researching and several trials, we realized the next best thing was to mute everyone during the lesson. What's it like?  In audio it is a private lesson hearing just me and the music but in video you get to watch everyone else on screen live. A little strange but still fun.

We went ahead and offered HGF online gospel lessons not knowing how many would be interested. To our surprise 350 members joined! Each online lesson has an average of 90 HGF choir members from all over Japan singing together. You should see the joy each member exudes as they sing, dance, clap, sway to gospel songs online! And even though things are not in-sync online, the gospel message hits them in perfect time!

Victoria Graduates College

When school was shut down Victoria lamented... "why are her senior years awful experiences". She loses here Mama as a senior in High School. And now as a senior in college, school is shut down. But if you know Victoria, she is courages. Here is the quote on the virtual graduation I wrote her: May you continue to persevere and conquer the challenges that will come before you. As your Mama always said "be a blessing!" I praise God for who you are! I love you, Daddy.

Victoria graduates from BIOLA with a Bachelors in Psychology and two minors in Biblical/Theological Studies and Secondary Education. There was no school ceremony but her siblings surprised Victoria with a family graduation special. Watch this 30-second video of Victoria's Special Graduation March.
