Hello Everyone

I hope you are all keeping well.

I have had a number of communications recently from the RYA about getting back onto the water and restarting Sailability sessions. I attempted to join an on line discussion last week but was beaten by the technology!

The government are now encouraging outdoor exercise. Sailing is mooted as one of the activities that could take place as long as it is done with members of the same household or people keeping 2 meters apart.

The Sailability committee have discussed this. There are lots of complications relating to clubhouse access, hand sanitising and toilet facilities but it strikes me that for our Sailability participants the biggest hurdle is keeping people 2m apart. We can’t see how we could do it in either the Access dinghies, wheelyboat or Crabber. Hoisting, fitting with life jackets, filling in paperwork all have their problems also. Catering is not advised (so no cake!!). Safety boats would need special consideration especially as we need lots of weed removal this time of year.

So sadly our conclusion was that considering both your safety and that of the participants, we can not restart our Sailability sessions just yet. We are monitoring the ever changing situation and I will keep in touch. If there are any observations or comments you would like to make, please contact me.

Keep well. Stay safe, and keep your Friday afternoons free.

Best wishes
Sue
