Dear friends,

Please note, our St Mary's Zoom Cafes now require a password (probably!) for you to join after clicking the links below (the links remain the same) - the password for both Sundays and Wednesdays is: 3AtPT9

Today rainbows, mental health, and faithfulness feature throughout our Sunday worship together.  Thanks once again to all who have contributed to today's worship - to Val, Sue, Liz. Thank you Ivan and the whole Bettles family for a wonderful creative reading, with rainbows abounding from Kingston Hospital, of today's Genesis story of Noah and family and of course ...the rainbow. Again the scriptures set for today speak so directly into our lives. Who hasn’t noticed rainbows these past few weeks? Or God's promise of hope and shelter through the storms? An uplifting rainbow song freshly composed by the great Will Todd, is included in our worship this morning too.

As we enter week 9 of lockdown, I wonder if you are thriving or simply surviving?  Probably through these weeks you’ve swerved from one to the other but I sense from many converstaions I’ve had of late, that many of us are dipping more towards survival mode, with our mental health at a lower ebb just now. What good timing for Mental Health Awareness Week this coming week. Prompting us to care for our own mental health, and from there become more able to be sensitive and attentive to the mental health of others.

This week we also celebrate Ascension Day together via St Mary's Facebook live Morning Prayer on Thursday, as well as on Ascension Sunday next week. The space between the Ascension and Pentecost, represented by 9 days in the church calendar, is the time those first disciples prayed for God to fill them afresh and equip them in a changed landscape. This is a time for the church, and for all seeking to be refreshed, guided, equipped, filled with new life, to take these 9 days in prayer and reflection, listening to God, praying for God’s spirit to guide and move afresh within the church and each of our lives.

Please join in our St Mary's Prayer Novena in the Parish of Shalford, from this Thursday, for 9 days of prayer and reflection between Ascension and Pentecost, at this important time for the transforming church and each of our lives. A special St Mary's Novena 9 Day Prayer Card Pack is available for all who would like one (please email/phone), and delivered to your door this week if you are on St Mary's electoral roll. Why not take time out to respond creatively each day in art or poetry too? And each evening at 9pm, do join in putting a lit candle in your window as we pray together.

What better time as we begin to emerge from lockdown into a complex and changed landscape, to take 9 days to dwell daily in stillness listening to God, caring for our mental health, asking the Holy Spirit to fill us and guide us as on the transforming path ahead for the church, for ourselves, and for our world.  Please join in praying daily with churches across the world praying, Thy Kingdom Come, and Come Holy Spirit, enlighten our hearts, and kindle in us the fire of your love.

with love and prayers,
Rev'd Sarah
