What's happening during this week's Sunday service?

SHARED ONLINE SUNDAY SERVICE:
10:30 AM
- Reverend Deryck Tines -

May 2020 focuses on being a people of Thresholds—spiritual and otherwise. This Sunday, May 17, Allegheny hosts worship for the Pittsburgh Unitarian Universalist Common Worship when Rev. Deryck Tines will explore what it means to go fearlessly. “Understanding our past and history uniquely empowers and prepares us to be unapologetically UU today in a society that’s filled with individuals seeking new meaning and new thresholds that are stable and affective, liberating them from those dying traditions that were the norm, suffocating and meaningless.” Join the journey. Cross the Zoom threshold this Sunday and every Sunday, 10:30AM (Eastern).

Allegheny UU will be holding its own Community Time after the service, from 11:15 am - 12 pm. To join AUUC Community Time, stick around after the service.

We believe a "Stay away AND Stay together" approach will help us continue to stay spiritually close when we can't be physically. For more information on the plan and things you can do to stay connected to others, visit our web site at alleghenyuu.org.

Please consider making an offering to support our church at  http://alleghenyuu.org/wp/donate/ and contributing to this month's Justice Partner, Northside Common Ministries, at http://www.ncmin.org/donate-online!
COMMUNITY NEWS

What Else Is Happening in Our Church Community?
Rev Dave's (first!) retirement celebration May 31st

Given the current environment, we will have a virtual celebration of our beloved Rev Dave on May 31st after his final service as our called minister, with a promise that when we are able to regather, we will give him proper honors and accolades in person. Anyone interested in helping plan the celebration please contact Kate Tomlinson at katava@gmail.com.
AUUC Annual Meeting - June 28th

Also given the current environment, the Board has decided to delay the annual meeting of the congregation until June 28th at 12pm. We will definitely prepare for an online Zoom meeting, and we will continue to monitor and assess whether an in-person option is also feasible. So, no meeting on May 17th, and mark your calendars for June 28th.
Drop In & Stay Connected

We're now offering TWO casual weekly opportunities to hang out and connect online!

1.) On Wednesday nights: Join us at 6:30 pm for a casual mid-week hangout with other UU friends! Bring your dinner, an activity, or just chill together. Click bit.ly/UUHangout to register!

2.) On Thursday afternoons: Drop In Stay Connected Option! That's right, you are officially invited to a DISCO! We'll gather from Noon - 1:00 PM eastern time. For now, facilitated by Laura Conkle. Laura will hold this space weekly, on Thursday from Noon to 1 PM eastern time for as long as we need it to be a thing.

Use this link to join: https://bit.ly/2Va62Sn

We'll have time on Zoom to share stories, experiences, projects, or simply be quiet together. If this is when you eat, bring that along, too. I can't tell you the number of times I've been on zoom eating myself or someone else eating. It's so normal ~ it's boring. Also, you're invited to bring coloring pages, knitting, or any other creative thing you're working on to share and / or advance during our time together. All are welcome. Please note ~ This is a welcoming space for neurodivergent folx. We will have moments of quiet and also take turns sharing so that everyone has an opportunity to speak or write in chat or pass.

We're continuing to stay away, but stay connected!

Here are some other ways we're staying connected:
  • We're ministering to each other. Reach out to one another directly by text, phone, or email. Try a video meeting through Facebook, Skype, Google, or other method.
  • Marissa is distributing RE lessons by e-mail every week and hosting a brief weekly Zoom call for the kids. Reach out for more info!
  •  We're sharing with and supporting others on our Facebook group. This is a closed group, meaning content is only visible to group members. It’s a great place to share joys and sorrows or other feelings and experiences.
  • We're encourging people to keep connected to church news and inspiration through our FaceBook page, YouTube channel, website, weekly newsletter, and, now, Zoom platform. More information on all these resources are below.
  • Anyone may contact Rev Dave by phone, email, FaceBook, Twitter, or Instagram to connect with him for pastoral care.
  • We're all invited to join one of Rev. Sunshine Wolfe’s Zoom calls, open to all Central East Region congregational and organizational leaders every Wednesday from 11am to 12pm (eastern) and Friday from 5pm to 6pm beginning Friday, March 13th until the end of the pandemic.

Someday, Someway Sale

The Mexican War Streets sidewalk sale has been canceled, but we are still planning an AUUC fundraiser sale for some future date, so keep saving your treasures! Since we are all indoors more than ever, we're possibly 'Spring Cleaning'!  While you are home, please think about items you may want to donate to AUUC for fundraising for the Someday, Someway Sale. This future sale will be a fundraiser for our church community.  If you want to support these fundraising  efforts, please contact Lisa Schroth at twoindecember@gmail.com.    Thank you in advance for supporting our church!
