The latest from Portland Museum...

Hello friends — we hope you had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend!

While we are preparing to open our doors in a couple weeks(!), we want to first share what we've been up to over the past couple months. We have been working hard on our physical and digital spaces, creating new ways to engage our community, and reimagining our website — including a new Education section on the website with something for everyone; click HERE to check it out!

Our grounds are in bloom and showing off the past year of weeding, layering, & uncovering. And as we continue beautifying the gardens, we will be making some much-needed repairs to our fence thanks to the generous support of donors during our #GivingTuesdayNow campaign. Thank you to everyone who donated and made it a success!

We are excited to share our newest publication: a Portland history coloring book! And since we can't be open to the public right now, we are offering the book for free! You can stop by the museum to pick up a copy — just look for the large driftwood post along the brick sidewalk — or you can download it by clicking HERE.

Before the COVID-19 shutdown, we installed a pop-up collections exhibit highlighting the Portland Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. While we were not able to host the reception we were planning, the exhibit will live on in future updates to the permanent exhibit. In the meantime, click HERE to explore Portland's African American Heritage Trail.

We're working on a multi-faceted program centered on John James Audubon. Since the current health crisis has delayed the opening to a yet-to-be-determined date, we are waiting to announce all the exciting details — one element will be thousands of origami cranes strung throughout the museum, and we would love your help in making this a reality! A digitized Portland research index, along with a bio on the amazing woman behind the original version; and
