What's a Precinct Committee Person?
Both Republican and Democratic Parties are run by PCPs, who are the voting members of the party. Voting in the Primaries is one way to influence party politics, but another way is to become a voting party member, as a Precinct Committee Person. Why? Because ONLY PCPs can:
- elect local and state party leaders
- decide how to spend party budget
- decide who the party endorses
- decide what the party platform says
It's not too late to become an Elected PCP with either party.
Write-Ins are allowed until May 19th at 8pm: just 3 people in your precinct must write your name on the blank line on their ballot before turning it in AND you must fill out this form, print, sign and mail or email it to the clerk's office by May 19th. elections@co.yamhill.or.us
What precinct do you live in? It's not an easy question to answer, unfortunately. You can look this up on the county's website here: https://www.co.yamhill.or.us/gis,or. Choose the = symbol in the upper right, then choose to add the 'Precinct' layer to the map.
There are 280 PCP positions for each major party in Yamhill County - only 50 are currently filled by Democrats.
