Changes in the ASV Board of Governors and New Board Member Nominating Process

Dear ASV Families:

Like many international and American schools, the American School of Valencia is governed by a Board of Governors (BOG) composed of parents of students who serve the school voluntarily and with enthusiasm. The BOG is empowered to guide strategic planning, provide oversight of financial planning and budgets, while remaining focused on guaranteeing the long-term success of the school.

At the Annual Shareholders Meeting held on February 26, 2020, the election of the Board of Governors was unanimously approved by the present and represented shareholders. The new elected Board of Governors then chose, also unanimously, Javier Sánchez as the new President of the BOG of the American School of Valencia.

Javier Sánchez holds the position previously held by Alberto Domingo (member of the ASV BOG since 2007 and president since 2011); Mr. Domingo considered that after many years of serving ASV, it was the time to hand over the leadership of the school. Both Mr. Domingo and Mr. Francisco Estela (member of the BOG since 2016 and vice president), voluntarily relinquished their roles on March 25, 2020.

On behalf of the ASV community, the current Board of Governors wishes to recognize and thank Mr. Domingo and Mr. Estela for their enormous dedication and effort during the many years they served our community, a period in which they contributed to achieve the official accreditation by the Middle States Association (MSA), the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), while positioning ASV as the school of choice in Valencia.

At the present time, the new Board of Governors aims to add new members to the school’s governing body who will contribute to maintaining and improving the goals of ASV, as well as providing a progressive succession and the transfer of knowledge as has taken place in the past 40 years of the school history.  During the last Shareholders Meeting, the elected members encouraged other parents to present themselves as candidates and join the ASV Board of Governors. The school has a series of objective procedures to evaluate potential candidates and achieve a balance among diverse areas of responsibility. This process is currently open and the BOG invites all parents to stay informed by following the school’s official means of communications.

Sincerely,

The ASV Board of Governors
