Hello, everyone.  A few weeks ago, we recommended that you take time to watch a documentary called “Planet of the Humans”. As of 5/16, almost 8 million people have viewed this! Watch it before May 21st while it’s available at no charge on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk11vI-7czE

An interesting review of the documentary can be found here:

Legislative Action: Senator Ortt and Assemblymen Norris and Hawley have come through for us again.  They, along with other upstate legislators, have introduced in the New York State Senate and Assembly bills that would require industrial wind or solar projects to be approved by a town referendum before they are given a permit to build.  This would give communities the last word in industrial renewables projects that are so large they change the character of a town and have negative consequences for wildlife and habitats.

These bills would balance the immense funding advantage that out of state corporations have over rural towns and counties by giving these communities a meaningful voice.  Imagine if the corporations proposing these projects, under threat of losing a referendum, had to modify their applications to address local issues?  It would save communities much time and money in that only projects that have solid community support would move forward.

More information about the bills can be found at the following links.  We hope these bills gain more support as they go forward. If you or family or friends live in other parts of New York State please contact or encourage others to contact their Senator or Assembly person and ask them to support these bills.  And then consider a thank you email to our legislators for their work on this.
