To continue to support our community in connecting with the environment, we are offering a range of activities that can be done in isolation and in the comfort of your homes. Check out the May events here.

Thinking about composting?

Home Composting Program

Over 550 households have cut their rubbish in half by joining Brimbank’s Home Composting Program. You can do the same.
 
To get you started we’re offering a one-off rebate of $50 on a compost bin or worm farm. Discounted composting equipment starts at $26.40 delivered to your home.

During May Brimbank residents get discounts on delivery too! Just enter the code ‘FREETOGROW’ when you buy your equipment. How great is that!

Energy Saving Workshop

Many of us are spending more time at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Join this online workshop to get expert advice and learn easy ways to save money and reduce your energy bill at home. This session will also offer information on the support that’s available if you have trouble paying your bill.

When: Wednesday 20 May 2020, 7pm-8pm

Online Workshop

Guide to Composting and Worm Farming

Learn the basics of composting and worm farming and tips and tricks to make great compost. Find out more about different composting containers, worm farming and Bokashi buckets. Join us to enrich your composting and work farming during times in isolation.

When: Saturday 23 May 2020, 10:00 am–12:00 pm
Where: Online Meeting Place will be emailed to registered participants prior to event.

Please note: Further advice on how to participate will be emailed a few days before the workshop. The workshop will commence at 10 am sharp but we'll be online from 9:30am to help anyone unfamiliar with the Zoom platform and enjoy a chat about how our gardens are growing.

Wildlife of Brimbank

Meet the wildlife who live in and around the Kororoit Creek in this special live online presentation by Reptile Encounters. Learn about our local species and how we can help to look after them. Special appearances by the Blue-Tongue Lizard, Flying Fox, Growling Grass Frog and more!

Online Workshop

Nature Journalling with Trace Balla

Peek inside award-winning author and illustrator Trace Balla’s nature journals, followed by a demonstration of her artistic techniques. Trace will then answer questions about her work and set a fun nature journalling activity for participants.

This is an online workshop suitable for ages 8 – adult.

When: Saturday 30 May 2020, 10:00 am–10:45 pm

Biodiversity in Your Backyard: Bird-themed Activities for Children

Getting outside and enjoying our environment is harder during the COVID-19 health emergency. So we are sharing environmental activities that you can do in isolation, in your home and in your backyard. In April, Brimbank Libraries helped us celebrate the Birds in Backyards Autumn Survey with special bird-themed programs for children.

Library to Your Door

Are you missing your regular visits to Brimbank libraries? In response to the closure of library branches due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Brimbank Libraries are offering a home delivery service to all residents of Brimbank who are also a Brimbank Libraries member. Now might be the time to borrow resources on bird identification, habitat gardening, composting and more!
