Greetings Old Ford Family,

I write to you tonight on behalf of the Leadership Team of Old Ford Church of Christ.  Like you, we are all eager to see our church reunited for in-person services.  We all agree that we must reopen our church in a responsible and careful manner in full compliance with the local, state, and national laws and recommendations.  As NC is now in Phase 1 of Governor Cooper’s reopening plan, we will not be able to meet in groups of more than 10 for the next few weeks, or until we reach Phase 2.  Descriptions of Phase 2 allow for some meetings of houses of worship; however, there will still be non-specified restrictions in the size of gatherings.  We hope that in the next couple of weeks, the limitations on the congregation sizes will be announced so we will have a better idea of how to move forward with scheduling services.

A tentative plan for returning to worship in Phase 2 will be to run 2 identical services in the Old Ford Family Life Center, one at 9 a.m. and one at 11 a.m.  The 10 – 11 a.m. hour will be used for sanitizing and cleaning for the next service.  The Life Center is ideal for our needs during Phase 2 for a few reasons.  We can easily control the flow of people in and out, we will only have to sanitize one building, and we have ample space to allow for social distancing measures in seating arrangements.  Some safety measures we have discussed for Phase 2 operations on top of added sanitizing and cleaning include providing masks at the door for those that do not have them, creating hand sanitizing stations throughout the building, having ushers for seating to help ensure social distancing measures are being followed, and providing single serve pre-packaged communion cups and bread.

Of course, the Governor’s warning for Phase 2 is for the highly vulnerable (elderly or those with weakened immune systems) to continue to follow stay-at-home orders.  We do not anticipate that everyone will be comfortable returning so soon, and that is completely understandable.  For that reason, we will continue to record our services and post them on the internet for those unable to attend.

We hope to have more details about a reopening plan once we have more information about Phase 2 restrictions.

The church is actually doing pretty well financially through this crisis.  If you have not been tithing and would like to, you have a couple of options:

  • Online Giving - Visit this link to make payments online: https://www.churchofficegiving.com/oldfordcoc
  • Mail – Please mail checks made out to Old Ford Church of Christ to the home of Deacon and Treasurer Freddie Matkins: 1293 Wharton Station Rd, Washington, NC 27889

We will continue to offer online services through Phase 1.  If you are having trouble with the links, please let me know.  I will be happy to try to help you.  We look forward to the time we are all together as one again.  Be safe!

Sincerely,
Scott Pake
Deacon
