WID THANKS KING JAMES GROUP AND MELK HUIS STAFF

The Woodstock Improvement District wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks the King James Group and their Melk huis staff - whom we have partnered with - for cooking 100 litres of soup every day for the community of Woodstock.

The soup was distributed to the Haven Shelter, St Anne's Home, The old Woodstock hospital, Percy Bartley Home, Pickwick housing site,Youth Solutions, Pine Road informal settlement and Wright Street informal settlement.

Receiving this daily donation has made it possible for us to feed a large number of families in need. And in addition, we have also continued to serve soup to the homeless two days a week.

This has been an amazing effort from the King James Group and we are truly grateful.

LEVEL 4 AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR US

As of 4 March, South Africans have been allowed to buy winter clothes, and order fast food, but in a U-turn from what was previously announced by the president, cigarettes will no longer be allowed to be sold.

South Africa has now embarked on a staged reopening of the economy, starting with a level 4 from 1 May, to help slow down the spread of coronavirus, and ensure that health authorities are not overwhelmed.

These are the rules of Alert Level 4, which is now applicable:

Masks are obligatory
Everyone has to wear cloth face masks outside their homes. If you don't yet have a cloth mask, you can wear a scarf or a t-shirt wrapped around your mouth and nose, says Dlamini-Zuma.
Strict curfew
Every person is confined to his or her place of residence from 20H00 until 05H00 daily, except where a person has been granted a permit to perform an essential or permitted service or is attending to a security or medical emergency.
You have a single chance to return to your residence
Any person who was not at their place of residence, or work before the lockdown period and who could not travel between provinces, metropolitan and distr ict areas during the lockdown, will be permitted, on a once-off basis, to return to their places of residence or work and will be required to stay in such place until the end of Alert Level 4.
Transport
There is a limit of three people per private vehicle, and 70% capacity in taxis. All taxis and e-hailing services such as Uber and Bolt must be sanitised daily, and hand sanitisers must be provided.
All gatherings are banned, except for funerals; when at a workplace; or when buying or obtaining goods and services.
Food Sales
The sale of takeaways will be permitted for delivery only - from fast food outlets and restaurants. Restaurants can open for food delivery services only, between 09:00 to 19:00.
The sale, dispensing and distribution of liquor is prohibited
Exercise
The lockdown Regulation Level 4 allows for walking, running and cycling between the hours of 6am and 9am within a 5km radius of your place of residence provides that it is not done in organized groups.
Live-in domestic staff and childminders in private households can return to work as part of Level 4 of the national lockdown. Staff employed by private households who care for the sick, mentally ill, elderly and people with disabilities will also be allowed to work, according to new regulations.

PREVENTING CORONAVIRUS IN THE WORKPLACE

HOW TO PREVENT CORONAVIRUS INFECTION DURING WORKPLACE OPERATIONS

Screening Employees every day
• Employees should be encouraged to stay away from work and attend a coronavirus testing centre if they develop any of the following symptoms. Symptoms suggestive of possible coronavirus infection are: Fever Cough Sore throat Shortness of breath
• Advice on which testing centre to attend is available from the provincial COVID-19 hotline number on 021 928 4102.
• On arrival at the work site, all employees should be screened by the company daily to identify other employees that may have developed any of the symptoms above.
• Temperature checks of employees could also be done, but should be done with a non-contact thermometer (thermal scanner). Temperature above 38 degrees is suggestive of possible coronavirus infection.
• Anyone with any of these symptoms should not be allowed to commence work. They should be provided with a surgical mask or a cloth mask, should wash their hands, and should be transported to a coronavirus testing centre.

Staff Travelling to work
• When employees travel in public or designated employee vehicles such as a minibus taxi or bus, they should sit as far from other passengers as possible.
• The vehicle should not be filled to more than 50% of its loading capacity, and all windows of the vehicle must be open to maximise ventilation.
• Employees should wear cloth masks at all times when travelling in public transport.
• They should rub their hands with alcohol based sanitiser before getting in the vehicle and after leaving the vehicle

Workplace entrances for staff
• Use a single entrance/exit as far as possible.
• Don’t allow staff to congregate at the staff entrance/exit
• If doors are not automated, keep the door open where possible to minimise multiple people touching the door handles. Where this is not possible, consider positioning an employee (e.g. security guard) at the door and instruct the employee to open the door for all staff/visitors to ensure that multiple people do not touch the door handles.
• Staff and visitors entering the workplace must sanitise their hands on entering and again on exiting, especially if they touched the door handles.

Physical distancing in the workplace
• Limit the number of people in the workplace (including employees and customers) to one person per 6 square metres (i.e. the floor meterage divided by 6). This number makes an allowance for the floor area which may be covered with shelves, equipment and tills.
• Once the number is reached (one person per 6 square metres), people can only be allowed to enter as others leave.
• Rearrange work spaces so that each employee can maintain a distance of 1,5 metres from others (employees/customers).
• If not possible to rearrange work spaces, limit the number of employees in a workspace at a time by allowing all employees who can do so to work from home and/or rearranging work patterns so that employees can work in shifts/on alternate days.
• Where possible employees should not share work surfaces or use the same equipment. Please remember that shared workstations and equipment must be cleaned between shifts/between use.
• Prevent employees from contact with many other employees by keeping them working in the same small team and not shifting between teams.
• Avoid handshakes, hugs and any physical contact with people. Greet people with a smile, or a nod, or a bow, or a wave.
• Reduce movement of managers and supervisors between work sites where possible. When they are required to visit a workplace they should avoid touching surfaces.

Workplace entrances for Customers
• Use a single entrance/exit as far as possible to facilitate access control If doors are not automated, keep the door open where possible
• Anyone entering the premises (customers/visitors) must sanitise their hands at the entrance and again on exiting.
• An employee placed at the entrance can spray the sanitiser onto the hands of people entering/exiting the premises rather than multiple people handling the sanitiser bottle.
• Prevent people from entering the premises if there are too many people inside already. Allow one person (including employees and customers) per 6 square metres

NATIONAL TREASURY LOAN SCHEME

As announced by the President, National Treasury, the South African Reserve Bank and
commercial banks have jointly created a guaranteed loan scheme. The purpose of this scheme is
to help small and medium-sized businesses and the economy.

The key features of the Covid-19 loan guarantee scheme are:
1. Covid-19 loans will be available from banks to eligible businesses in good standing with their
commercial banks with an annual turnover of less than R300 million.
2. Funds borrowed through this scheme can be used for operational expenses such as salaries, rent and lease agreements, contracts with suppliers, etc. Loans will cover up to three months of operational costs and will be drawn down monthly.
3. Banks are not obliged to extend Covid-19 loans, and those that do will use their normal risk-evaluation and credit-application processes. A business’ owners may be required to sign surety for the loan.
4. Each business may accept only one Covid-19 loan.
5. Covid-19 loans will be offered at a single, agreed lending rate by all banks participating in the
scheme. The rate will track the repo rate.
6. A six-month repayment holiday will commence from the first drawdown, although interest
will accumulate from the date on which the first drawdown on the loan occurs.
7. Repayment of interest and capital starts after six months and businesses have a maximum of
60 months to do so. Borrowers can repay the loan ahead of schedule.
8. The scheme will be rolled out by banks over the next few weeks.

The scheme works on the principle that profits and losses are ultimately shared between
government and the banks. The scheme will receive all ‘profits’ on the loans, i.e. the difference
between the rate at which banks lend the money (together with limited costs). This will include
a guarantee fee charged to the banks in relation to the scheme. These profits will be used to
offset any losses that the scheme makes. If the scheme suffers any further losses, these will be
absorbed by the banks themselves, capped at 6 per cent of the size of the loan. Any further losses
will ultimately be covered by the fiscus.

Please contact your bank for further details and eligibility criteria.
