PHIMA 4th Quarter Board Meeting Recap

Traditionally the last board meeting is held on the Sunday before the Annual Conference; however, due to changes with the COVID-19 pandemic, the PHIMA 4th Quarter Board Meeting was held virtually on Thursday, May 7, 2020. The PHIMA Strategic plan was reviewed and updated based on the change of the Annual Conference to August 24-25, 2020. The updated plan will be posted on the PHIMA web site.
The PHIMA Annual Conference was discussed at length and how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the change in dates, safety of the attendees and restrictions placed on large gatherings. Information will be sent out once the Executive Committee has reviewed our options and decisions have been made. Stay tuned for updates as they are available.
The Executive Committee voted on the Distinguished Member award and the awardee will be notified. The Distinguished Member will be honored at the Annual Conference.
The results of the Spring Member Survey were reviewed. While the response was lower than the Fall Member Survey, many were interested in volunteering opportunities. President-Elect Denise French will reach out to the members based on their responses and interests.
Coding webinars and plans for some on-site education sessions coming up this year were also discussed. Information will be posted soon.
The quarterly board reports include hot topics that the members have identified. Many of the hot topics will be used to assist with education sessions, webinars and the annual conference next year. So many changes are happening in our profession and PHIMA wants to keep our members informed, trained and prepared.
The PHIMA Annual Conference is scheduled for August 24-25, 2020 at the Lancaster Wyndham. Stay tuned for updates on the status of the conference and registration details.

HB 2476 was introduced on April 30th, 2020 BY GROVE, RYAN, JONES, GAYDOS, DeLUCA, KEEFER AND SAYLOR. The bill is to expand on healthcare outcome programs for Hospitals and MCO’s.
The program is designed to provide hospitals and MCO’s with information to reduce potentially avoidable events and further increase efficiency in Medicaid hospital services and Medicaid managed care programs. This bill would provide financial incentives such as positive or negative changes in the Hospital reimbursement rates under Medicaid based on whether the hospital successfully improved outcomes under the Hospital Outcomes Program concerning potentially avoidable readmissions and complications.
Likewise, for MCO’s it would offer positive or negative changes in the MCO’s Capitation rate for the next fiscal year based on the managed care organization's performance and health outcomes under the Managed Care Organization Outcomes Program. The Bill also provides cost reduction targets for the department and the target savings is no less than $40,000,000 for the first fiscal year (2020-2021).
