Gathering

<<First Name>>,

It has been nearly two months of quarantine. We have met eight times for worship via Zoom. I can tell from listening and observing that you are all coping with this challenging time in different ways, each of you facing unique hardships. As I think about Camas Friends Church in this season, I feel deep gratitude. So today, I just want to say "thank you."

Thank you for participating in worship. Thank you for continuing in your committee work. Thank you for giving leadership to various facets of our gatherings. Thank you for continuing to give. Thank you for voicing your needs to others in the meeting. Thank you for supporting one another. Thank you for participating in our work in the community and world. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Thank you for receiving the wisdom of others. Thank you for making space for each other. Thank you for continuing to “show up” in the many ways you do that.

I am grateful for the resilience of our meeting in this season. Keep it up! 😊

-Matt

Text of the Week

Luke 13:31-35 (NRSV)
31 At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, “Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.” 32 He said to them, “Go and tell that fox for me, ‘Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work. 33 Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed outside of Jerusalem.’ 34 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! 35 See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, ‘Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.’”

CFC Book Group Tonight

We are discussing (via Zoom) The Color of Compromise: The Truth about the American Church’s Complicity in Racism by Jemar Tisby. Please read Chapter 10 for tonight. A more extensive reading schedule is available HERE.

Pantry Donations

Please consider making a donation to our pantry. This week we recommend donating whole grain cereal. Some ways to donate include:
  • Bringing your donation by during normal pantry hours
  • Leaving your donation on the bench outside of the 4th Ave glass doors (please notify Matt if you do this)
  • Coordinating drop-off with Matt or Kendra
  • Donating money designated for "Pantry"

Grocery Delivery and Pantry

Please let Matt know if you cannot leave home and need someone to run an errand for you (groceries? trip to the hardware store? Pick up a dinner you ordered?). We have several folks eager to help. Also, our Food Pantry is open Thursday from 10am to 1pm and Sunday from 12:30 to 3pm. Know anyone who would benefit? We can also deliver pantry items.

Looking Ahead

May 24th: The Peace and Social Concerns Committee will host a brief (Zoom) meeting after worship to help the CFC community choose a Right Sharing project toward which to donate our $6500 from our Spring Fundraiser. After our meeting for worship ends, take a five-minute break and then rejoin us on the same call!

SCYMF Annual Sessions

Annual Gathering for Sierra-Cascades Yearly Meeting of Friends will be virtual via Zoom due to the current pandemic. We are now accepting registrations for the sessions, which will be June 12-14, 2020. Please send an email to registrar@scymf.org with your name, email address, Church or Meeting affiliation if you have one, the names of your family members who will be online with you and which session(s) you plan to attend. Families and couples are asked to use one screen per family unit in order to help with logistics. You must pre-register to receive the Zoom link for any session. Click here for more information.
