Dear People of Hope,
In these many, many days at home, Silas and I have both picked up the guitar again. We hand Katesh a tambourine or shaker, play music and sing. We call it "Family Band." Lately, we've put on our masks, walked around the apartment building, and taken our show on the road. This is, of course, called "Family Concert." Our repertoire includes joyful and simple songs like "You Are My Sunshine," and "This Little Light of Mine." We have been very popular with our neighbors, as you can see from the photo.
I know these days continue to be hard, some days more than others. AND I know that so many of you are finding joys, finding success, finding adventures. I hear that some of you have picked up art supplies, old books or the books you've been meaning to read for years. I hear that some of you are cooking new things, or re-doing your kitchens. Some of you are gardening, taking more walks or bike rides, spending time outdoors. Please share these stories!
If you are willing, please send me a photo or two of your joy, your adventures, how you're spending your time. I'll find ways to share these photos more widely so we can stay connected with each other, and with the joy that still is life.

CUCE Fundraiser at Franklins to support the PG Day Center Monday June 8, all day
Our next fundraiser at Franklin's in Hyattsville is on Monday, June 8, to benefit the day center run by Congregations United for Compassion and Empowerment (CUCE). The general store is open, and you can order carry-out for lunch or dinner or order a gift certificate. Franklin's will donate 20 percent of your before-tax total -- but you must show your receipt to the host to participate. Since June 2017, we have raised $2,498 for the day center through fundraisers at Franklin's!
Our neighbors in Langley Park THANK YOU for donating towards food assistance
Perhaps you saw this article in the Washington Post about our immigrant neighbors in Langley Park struggling with work, money and food. Humble Walk partners with these neighbors regularly though the after school programs En Camino and CARing Kids. Humble Walk invited donations to offer grocery gift cards to these families, and has been overwhelmed with the support.
Supporters from Hope gave around $3500; the appeal went wide and far, bringing nearly $20,000 in total donations. Pastor Ray is requesting matching grant funds from Lutheran Disaster Response and partnering with CASA De Maryland, which will bring the total up to $40-50,000 - all going to feed these families. Thank you, to everyone who was able to give.

How are our global neighbors in the Holy Land? Peace not Walls events on Saturday
For six Saturdays in a row, beginning on Saturday, April 25th, Peace Not Walls participants in the U.S. and partners in the Middle East will engage in weekly conversations about how the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting the Lutheran ministries in the Holy Land and how the Lutheran World Federation-Jerusalem Program and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL) are responding in order to continue their vital medical, ecclesiastical and educational work. In addition, these virtual meetings will provide an opportunity for participants and partners to discuss aspects of the ongoing Israeli occupation, especially the expansion of Israeli settlements and other human rights violations occurring in the shadow of the pandemic.
