NEWS
A Message from Alexis Lacewell, DiversiTea Editor DPT student Alexis Lacewell and the DPT Diversity Club and Diversity and Inclusion Committee publish the newsletter DiversiTea to help bring awareness to diversity and inclusion issues.
The most recent issue of DiversiTeahonors Genocide Awareness Month and various religious observances; the issue is rather historical and does contain references to events that are grim and may be sensitive for some.
While putting together this issue, I could not help but reflect on the similarities between the way in which COVID-19 is impacting our world and these historical events; but, some of the themes that connected it all and instilled some hope for me were survivorship, resilience, story-telling, community, legacy, and so much more. I think these themes are the things that we will be able to embrace when we reflect on and honor these times in the future.
May is Asian, Pacific, and Jewish American Heritage Month. If you have any content related to honor these topics, please use the content submission form and submit by Friday, May 15.
The 11th Annual Feagin Leadership Forum will be held virtually this year and more than 500 people have signed up to participate via Zoom. The Forum is also being live-streamed on YouTube via the links below:
As part of the 2019–2020 Feagin Leadership Program, one team cultivated patient stories to better understand the values of patient care. Patient Stories: Humans of the Hospital is a compilation of the stories collected with the hope to give learners a chance to engage more closely with the experience of being a patient in the healthcare system.

from Dara Purvis...
A huge thank you goes to Melanie Frank, Neil Ewing, Stephanie Bonham-Ratliff, Delores McNair, Dr. Attarian, Dr. Alman, Dr. Shaffrey, the faculty, and our surgery schedulers and/or those who post cases for our faculty! A special shout out to Melanie Frank for her role as the point person in gathering the details for daily review. Thank you also to Wendy Webster for answering questions along the way.
Over the past eight weeks, a daily submission and review of surgery cases were required to be performed based on the COVID surgery requirements across the nation and for Duke. This team gathered these details manually and reviewed each one–each and every day. There were many changes and additions in how this process was managed and everyone contributed and helped make needed process modifications along the way. The dedication and countless hours of work for this process by all involved were essential throughout this time. Thank you to everyone. This is a great team!
