Updates from Rev. Patricia. View the May 13, 2020, video update from Rev. Patricia T. Bass. We are thrilled that UWM received funding in the second round of the PPP (Payroll Protection Program)! Patricia talks about whether to reopen or not, our plans for sharing former convention items over the coming months, the Loaves & Fishes Fund, and more.
Coronavirus Resources: Deciding if, when, and how to re-open? Our Rapid Response webpage has several checklists and tools for you as well as a link to an informative and enlightening article about how the coronavirus is spread. We also added a link to new youth and family ministry (YFM) virtual lessons. Don’t forget to check our Connection Space for upcoming get-togethers and archived sessions. As always, we continue to hold you and your loved ones in our prayers for well-being, growth, and grace.
Apply to Loaves & Fishes Fund. In case you missed our prior announcement, we have a new Loaves & Fishes Fund. This fund is specifically to help with ministry operating expenses that may have been affected by the current COVID-19 outbreak. See more details and the application form on our website. For information on other board decisions, including deferral of HUG Fund repayments through the end of 2020, read the April 28, 2020, issue of Updates from the UWM Board. Contact Celia Holman about the HUG Fund deferral.
AV Podcast Grant Applications Being Accepted. Unity Worldwide Ministries is now accepting applications for matching sub-grants to qualified Unity ministries wanting to share their inspiring message with the world. Please review the grant criteria on our website. If you have any questions about this process, please reach out to Rev. Diana Kennedy at DKennedy@unity.com or 816-434-6814. This project is supported by the John Templeton Foundation. The application process for this round of matching grants closes June 30, 2020.
Ministry Phone Recordings. Please check the message that callers hear when contacting your ministry by phone to ensure that it reflects your current state of services and offerings. Accurate information makes it easy for folks to connect with you and to stay engaged with your ministry!

Educating Unity Leaders in Spiritual Principles

UWSI Promo Video. This short video about Unity Worldwide Spiritual Institute (UWSI) online education and the various educational paths is perfect for showing in your spiritual communities. You can include the link (https://youtu.be/rGEZ5wHBr6s) in your ministry newsletter and on your website. Leaders in the field requested something quick and easy to share with their communities. We are happy to be able to provide this video, which was also shown at convention in June 2019.
SEE Week in Maryland. Join us on our beautiful four-acre campus outside of Washington, D.C., for our 2020 Spiritual Education and Enrichment Week (SEE), May 31–June 5, 2020. This year’s theme is Awaken to Wholeness, Experience Oneness. Due to COVID-19 protocols, we will be offering all eight classes and extracurricular activities online using Zoom. Our outstanding faculty is: Rev. Toni Fish, Rev. Ogun Holder, Rev. Kelly Isola, and Jane McCarthy, LUT. For details and registration, go to unityofgaithersburg.org. Training Unity Leaders in Effective Leadership

Webinar: Shield the Vault. The model of best practices implemented at Unity of Fairfax, Oakton, Virginia, can be applied in communities of all sizes. This model takes advantage of the latest technology to eliminate manual functions, transfers employer risk by outsourcing functions and legal responsibilities, segregates duties, and leads with transparency. The webinar will be held on May 26, 1:30-3 p.m. (CT),and the suggested love offering is $35. Register by May 24, 2020. (This class is worth 1.5 CEUs.)
Using Social Media for Fundraising. In this webinar taught by Rev. Kelly Isola, you will learn the beginnings of how to use social media to build relationships and to counter some of the assumed implications of technology in building relationships and fundraising. This webinar is offered twice: June 9, 2020, 1:30-3 p.m. (CT), with registration due by June 7, 2020, and June 11, 2020, 7-8:30 p.m. (CT), with registration due by June 9, 2020. (This class is worth 1.5 CEUs.) The suggested love offering is $35.
Webinar: Uplevel the Engagement of Your Online Course. Increase engagement of your online course with this innovative tool, TalentLMS. This free tool allows learners to access course content, engage asynchronously in discussions, complete readings, and turn in assignments. With prework accomplished, the live session can focus on a deeper exploration of the content’s meaning to the learner and how it will be applied. Taught by Rev. Diane Venzera, M.Ed., this webinar will be held June 16, 2020, 1:30-3 p.m. (CT). Register by June 14, 2020. (This class is worth 1.5 CEUs.)

Michele Fritz, owner of Print by the Yard, our experienced branded print provider, has some camera tips for you when using online platforms for your Sunday services or classes. Simple tweaks of your camera angle, lighting, and background can make for a more pleasing experience for your viewers.

The last day that Rev. Linda Fisher, CSL, served at Unity of Bremerton, Washington, was April 5, 2020.

Rev. Ron Palumbo (ordained 1993) will be the new minister at Unity of Yakima Spiritual Life Center, Washington, starting on June 1, 2020.
Stacy Macris Ros, LUT (licensed 2018), is the new spiritual leader for Unity of the Oaks, Thousand Oaks, California, as of March 1, 2020.

Unity of Livonia, Michigan, has hired a new minister with a start date of May 18, 2020. Rev. Cindy Yamamoto will be ordained in June 2020.
 

Celebrations


Rev. Joy Wyler (ordained 2004) will retire from ministry on May 31, 2020, after serving Unity of Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, for 11 years. There will be an after party on Zoom after the Facebook Live service on May 31. Details on accessing the Zoom link will be published on the ULV Facebook page and website. Notes may be sent to the church or to Rev. Joy's email: ulvrevnow@gmail.com. The Board is hoping to plan further celebrations when it is safe to gather in person. Rev. Joy plans to return to the Kansas City area and continue her involvement with the Unity movement while reconnecting with friends and family. Congratulations, Joy, and thank you for all your years of service to the Unity movement on so many levels!

These air between the commercials on the radio stream. We’d love to share your inspired moments from recorded talks and lectures on the network. You supply the audio and the UOR team will edit and produce for air in 1-2 minute segments. If you have audio of your talks or sermons (MP3), please contact program director Diane Ray.

Unity Magazine Resources for Ministers. The May/June issue of Unity Magazine® is themed “Respect the Earth.” However, it can also serve as a pandemic issue with features about grief, thinking differently, and healing the world. This issue is full of stories you can use for talks and classes when, week after week, you continue to address what’s happening in the world.
Find a Ministry Tip. Looking for a ministry that offers livestreamed services or services that are recorded and available online? Unity Worldwide Ministries offers an online Find a Ministry directory at unity.org/findchurch. To find a ministry that offers livestreamed or recorded services, use the “Keywords” search box on the directory page. You can enter keywords such as “livestream,” “podcast,” or “recorded services,” which will pull up a listing of our ministries that offer these services. Questions? Ask Rev. Diana Kennedy.
The Power of Music to Heal. Request your copy of the newest Unity blessing booklet, The Heart of Healing. Favorite Unity writers explore the spiritual elements of healing, illustrated by lyrics from our friend, singer/songwriter Karen Drucker.
