The Environmental Caucus voted to support Jones after reviewing the completed survey that was drafted and approved by the Florida Environmental Caucus. In answering one question, David wrote that global warming, sea level rise and saltwater intrusion are the most urgent issues of our lifetime. He supports renewable energy policies and a statewide ban on drilling for fossil fuels and fracking.
Jones is running for the Democratic nomination for District 75. He is currently unopposed in the August primary election. The winner of the primary will likely face long-time Republican incumbent Michael Grant in the November general election.
When asked, Charlotte County Democratic Party Chair Teresa Jenkins said, "David will make all the difference when he gets to Tallahassee to heal our imperiled waterways and address threats to our natural resources."
David Jones is a relative newcomer to local politics but he has been a long-time champion of the environment. Jones said, “If we intend to send a person to Mars and create a Space Force, we can knock out blue-green algae and red tide here in Florida, and southwest Florida in particular.” “Carbons, Phosphates and Nitrates are the true axis of evil. They need to be controlled and stopped as soon as possible.”
