Dig into something fun this week

Take time - no, MAKE time to get away from work emails and Zoom meetings to take in some creative content, and get your hands around some art supplies. The arts engage us in thinking about life and the world in new ways. Dig it?

We encourage you to reach out and make a contribution today to your most treasured arts institutions, and support your favorite artists'
Patreon accounts or buy their work. Help them weather the storm, if you are able. You could even consider pledging a portion of your Recovery Rebate to the arts!

Sincere thanks - from Arts Alive! and the editors of Discover Monadnock

A Virtual Treasure

Ongoing

Until the places we love to visit can safely open again, we can enjoy exploring old favorites or new ones, online. While the Brattleboro Museum of Art may not be in the Monadnock Region, it's a neighbor we are fortunate to have!  The BMAC has a website tab, BMAC Online that is chock full of entertainment for all ages - videos, blogs and fun activities.  Check out their website and you might be first in line when the Museum reopens!

The photo here is from the 2019 'Glasstastic" exhibit at which glass artists displayed creations based on the designs of young people. The glass artist is Alissa Faber and 'Jelly Jar' was designed by Chase Sullivan. Enjoy scrolling through the exhibit to see Chase's description of 'Jelly Jar' along with many other creations and  the youth's narrative in his or her own hand!

A Large Amount of Something Valuable

May 28, 6:30 - 8:30 pm

While a trip to the movies is off-limits for now, Monadnock International Film Festival (MONIFF) has partnered with the Monadnock Food Co-op and Monadnock Alliance for Sustainable Transportation (MAST) to bring the movie to you!

Tune in later this month for a free virtual community screening of the award-winning film, MOTHERLOAD, a crowdsourced documentary, that explores how the cargo bicycle becomes a vehicle for exploring motherhood in this digital age of climate change. The film is rated PG so you can watch with the whole family. The presentation will close with a 30-minute discussion among director Liz Canning; VBike Founder, Dave Cohen; and Keene State College Film Professor, Ted White.

The film is presented free of charge but you must register to get the link you need. This community screening celebrates National Bike Month, a promotion each May that highlights the many benefits of bicycling and inspires individuals to bike more often.

On Your Time!

Our apologies to Gordon Peery! Last month we featured his website updated to provide music listening and reading opportunities for your pleasure.  Much to our dismay the link to his page was broken. Gordon’s artistry as an accompanist on the piano began with playing piano for contra dances in the late 1970’s. Gordon subsequently broadened his musical ventures to include folk, blues, and jazz, all of which can be explored on his website. In any setting, Gordon supports and enhances the musicians he plays with. His website includes some looks back at groups he has played with such as the trio in the photo above (Gordon with Rodney Miller and David Surette.) Check it out - for real this time!

Julio DelSesto and Paul Kohler, both teachers, form the duo, Life on Venus.  Recordings they provide on their Facebook page, may help you remember that this is still, and can be, a wonderful world. The selection of hopeful, cheer-filled songs may be just the boost you crave in the present time.
