Sixth Sunday of Easter // May 17, 2020
Before you begin...

Welcome to worship.  May this time be one of re-centering and remembering who and Whose you are. You're invited to silence your cell phone, and turn off the news. Sit down with the people in your home (pets too!). Light a candle to remind you of the light of Christ. Take a deep breath, and plan to give yourself and your attention to God as we worship together.

We've included links to musical pieces, a video reflection, and other items.  To follow the links, please click on the underlined blue text.

Call to Worship                                                                                         Psalm 124:8
   Our help is in the name of the Lord,
   Maker of heaven and earth.
Confessing
Call to Confession
   The truth of God's amazing love is this:
   while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
   Because we have faith in him, we can approach God with confidence.
   Trusting in God's grace, let us confess our sin.

Prayer of Confession
   O God, it is in you that we live and move and have our being.
   Even in the midst of your glorious creation
   we see sin's shadow and feel death's darkness:
   Around us in the earth, sky, and waters that we have damaged;
   beside us in our betrayal of the broken, the hungry, and the poor;
   and often, deep within us, a striving against your Spirit.
   Forgive us that we may forgive one another,
   heal us that we may be people of healing,
   and renew us that we also may be makers of peace.  Amen.

Words of Assurance
   Sisters and brothers, hear the good news!
   Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation.
   The old life has gone; a new life has begun.
   Know that you are forgiven and be at peace.  Amen.

A Time with Children
Covenant preschool and elementary school children received the Children's Bulletin and a special coloring page in the mail.  Please let Katelyn know if your child did not receive this mailing or if you would like to be added to the mailing list.

This Sunday would've been our last day of Sunday School.  The children who participated in the children's Zoom gathering earlier this week have a special message for our teachers.  Click here to see!

Prayers of Intercession & The Lord's Prayer
   We pray for those who are dear to us and for those whose names we do not know.
   Loving God, we hold in your healing presence those who suffer pain and ill-health,
      with their families, friends, and those who care for them.
      May they know the comfort of your Spirit.
   Loving God, we hold in your healing presence the suffering people of our world,
      and the broken places where people live in the midst of scarcity, division,
      injustice, and violence.
      May they know the hope of your Spirit.
   Loving God, we hold in your healing presence those facing death
      and those who will be left in grief.
      May they know the promise of your Spirit.
   We offer you all our suffering and pain.  Give us strength to bear our weakness,
      healing when there is no cure, peace in the midst of turmoil,
      and love to fill the spaces in our lives.
   We give you thanks that you invite us to participate in your transformative power,
      so that we can share in the restoration, reconciliation, and renewal that is
      your hope for all creation.
   We ask these things in the name of Christ, who taught us to pray:
      Our Father, who art in heaven,
      hallowed be thy name.
      Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
      on earth as it in heaven.
      Give us this day our daily bread;
      and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors;
      and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
      For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.

Faith in Action                                        A/V Team
As we make plans to return to worship, we will begin live-streaming our 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning worship service. We are in need of a few people to serve on our A/V team to help make this happen every week. If you are willing and able to serve at least one Sunday each month, then please contact Andy Cooke or the church office.

Virtual Communion
The Stated Clerk of the Presbyterian Church (USA) has issued an Advisory Opinion regarding the celebration of the Lord's Supper via online platforms. During this time, the Session of Covenant Presbyterian Church has maintained monthly online communion. We will celebrate communion next on Sunday, June 7.

Returning to the Sanctuary
At this time, we do not have a date when we will return to the sanctuary for worship. The Session has directed us to worship online only through at least June 12. When we do return, we will continue to offer online worship for those who are either "high risk" or who do not wish to be in the sanctuary yet. Please check our website for more information.

Daily Devotional Resource
The PC(USA) Daily Prayer app is a good resource to have on your phone for daily worship.
