Collective action to address the pandemic

We are facing a global crisis that puts an extraordinary and unprecedented burden on health systems, organizations, and professionals. On every continent, health care workers continue to care for people with COVID-19 despite the risks to their families and their own health.

At the same time, they are also facing other environmental health challenges that have been arising during the response to this pandemic, such as management of health care waste or the implementation of disinfection tunnels in some countries.

We are witnessing how collaboration between GGHH members and health care professionals is growing, sharing ideas and engaging in conversations around best practices and solutions. In this context, the role of health professionals as reliable, trusted messengers is more important than ever. Read more

Coronavirus update: Health care waste management and disinfection tunnels fact sheets

As part of the efforts of Health Care Without Harm to support our GGHH members around the world, our teams have prepared two fact sheets:

  • Health care waste management: A comprehensive document with the latest information and recommendations on how to address waste management in a coronavirus context. Available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Bahasa.
  • Disinfection tunnels: Reports of widespread use of disinfectant tunnels and disinfectant spraying of the population to address the pandemic are raising concern. There is a lack of evidence demonstrating that these practices are safe and effective. Further, their use may create a false sense of security and pose hazards for the community. Available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

These fact sheets are available on the Health Care Without Harm Coronavirus Resource Center, which houses a curated list of resources and guidelines produced by Health Care Without Harm, its partners and multilateral organizations.
